March 2026

Communiqué

REGISTRATION RENEWAL DEADLINE IS FAST APPROACHING!

The deadline to complete your renewal is approaching! This year’s registration renewal is due by 5:00 p.m. ET on March 31, 2026. Any registrant who has not completed their renewal by the deadline may be required to pay a late fee of $150 +HST.

To complete the renewal form and pay the annual renewal fee, please go to the “Renewal” tab of your user account. This year’s renewal form may appear different from previous years as CRPO continues to make improvements to the user system. Detailed information about this year’s renewal process can be found on the Annual Registration Renewal Information page.

CRPO has also prepared a video walkthrough of the renewal process. The video goes through each page of the renewal form in detail. We encourage registrants to view this video on our YouTube channel, which includes timestamps of each section in the video description so that you can easily navigate to the section that is of interest.  Alternatively, you can watch our YouTube playlist of short videos that highlight each section of the renewal process. The video is also available in French.

Registrants who have outstanding fees past the invoice due date will not be able to access their renewal until their outstanding fees have been paid. If you do not see a button to access renewal, please go to the “Receipts” page of your account to view and pay any outstanding invoices. Please be aware that it may take up to one business day from the date of payment for the renewal to be made available to you.

Registrants who have not yet completed the Health Professions Database (HPDB) questions are required to complete this before they can access the “Renewal” tab. If you login to your account and only see a “Health Professions Information” tab, please complete the training and practice history questions and then you will be able to access the “Renewal” tab.

Frequently Asked Questions

A full list of frequently asked questions about renewal are available on the Annual Registration Renewal Information page. Here are some of the most commonly received questions during this renewal period so far:

I am on the Current Practice Sites page of the renewal form. What am I being asked to do on this page?

This new page on the renewal form is for registrants to ensure their current psychotherapy practice site information is complete and up-to-date. All practice sites where you have indicated you are currently practicing psychotherapy will be shown on this page.

Any current practice sites that may be missing information or have errors requiring correction will be shown on this page in red. Please click the “Click to Edit” button beside any entries marked in red and add or edit the information as necessary. Note that not all address fields are presented here, so if you need to make changes to fields that are not shown, you must go to the “Practice Information” tab of your account to make the necessary updates.

If you notice there is a site listed that is no longer current (that is, you no longer practice psychotherapy at that site), you must go to the “Practice Information” tab of your account to make the necessary updates.

I am on the Education related to the profession of psychotherapy page of the renewal form. There are education programs shown on this page with missing or incorrect information. What do I do?

CRPO is in the process of reviewing and updating education records for all registrants. As such, you may see duplicate entries, typos in the institution name or blank graduation years. Please do not create a new record for the same education credential on this page. If any corrections to existing entries are required, please email registration@crpo.ca and proceed with your renewal. Please do not wait for a response to submit your renewal, as corrections can be made by College staff after the renewal period is over.

I am on the Education related to the profession of psychotherapy page of the renewal form. I have completed continuing education or individual courses/workshops related to psychotherapy. Should I report these?

No, please only report graduate-level education and training related to psychotherapy, such as a diploma or degree. Continuing education courses should not be reported in this section.

I am on the Other current registrations page of the renewal form. How do I fill out this section?

At the top of the page, you will see a table reflecting any information previously reported about current registration, with from any other statutory regulatory body.

If you have any changes to report to the existing information (e.g., your registration with another regulatory body has ended, you have a new finding of misconduct to report, etc.), please click EDIT on the respective record and provide the necessary information.

If you need to report new current registration with another statutory regulatory body, please select “Yes” from the drop-down. On the next page, you will be asked to provide the necessary information about your new current registration with that statutory regulatory body.

If there are no changes to the information in this section, you would select “No”.

I think I submitted my renewal. How can I confirm it was received?

After submitting your payment, you will be automatically directed to an order confirmation page indicating that your renewal has been successfully submitted. An order confirmation will also be emailed to you.

Please do not attempt to pay the fee multiple times. All fees paid to CRPO are non-refundable.

CRPO staff will contact you by email if your renewal is submitted or approved. You may also be contacted if staff have follow-up questions about your renewal.

I am currently RP (Qualifying) and have updated my clinical experience hours in order to transfer to the RP category. My hours are in the queue to be reviewed. Should I renew as RP (Qualifying) or wait until I have transferred categories?

Renewal and category transfer are separate processes. Please complete your renewal by the deadline.

Resigning Your Registration

If you don’t intend to renew and would like to resign your registration with CRPO, please go to the “Transfer Request” tab of your user account and submit the resignation form. For more information on resigning, please see the Registration Categories page.

NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN FOR CRPO COUNCIL ELECTION. HERE’S WHY YOU SHOULD RUN.

We started accepting nominations for election to CRPO Council for three available positions in Districts 2 (North), 3 (East) and 4 (Central East). If you practice in one of those districts, you would have received a separate email from CRPO asking you to consider running or to participate in the electoral process.

By serving on CRPO’s Council you would be contributing in a meaningful way to public protection, strengthening the profession, and bringing your unique perspective to the regulatory table. We aim to bring a diversity of perspectives, experiences, and competencies in governance to help ensure decisions reflect the realities of practice across Ontario.

What Council Does

  • Oversees CRPO’s regulatory work
  • Sets standards and policies that protect the public
  • Provides strategic direction and governance
  • Ensures accountability and transparency
  • Supports safe, ethical, and competent psychotherapy in Ontario

 How RPs can contribute

  • Bring firsthand insight from clinical practice
  • Offer diverse perspectives and lived experiences
  • Help ensure regulation reflects real client and practitioner needs
  • Strengthen decisions made in the public interest

What RPs Gain

  • Leadership and governance experience
  • Deeper understanding of professional regulation
  • Opportunities for meaningful collaboration
  • The satisfaction of shaping the future of psychotherapy

If you’re passionate about the future of psychotherapy in Ontario, interested in governance, or eager to contribute to safe and equitable care, consider running for Council.

Not ready to run for CRPO Council? You can still make a difference – vote! Every voice counts, and strong participation across districts supports more balanced, informed decision-making for the profession and public at large.

COMMUNIQUE SURVEY

Minimalist illustration of three people sharing different colored documents against a yellow background.

CRPO continues to receive responses to the Communique survey, and we sincerely thank everyone who has participated so far. We have already begun implementing some of your suggestions, such as colour-coding and repositioning time-sensitive information to ensure nothing important is missed.

Haven’t responded yet? Now is a great time to share your thoughts. The Communique serves as a timely resource for updates, changes, and developments across the psychotherapy and regulatory landscape.  Your feedback helps shape the content and format of future issues. Share your thoughts here.

GUESTS IN THERAPY SESSIONS

The topic of guests in therapy sessions has come up as a subject of a few complaints recently reviewed by different ICRC panels. As a refresher, we encourage you to revisit the “Guests in Sessions” article, originally published in the October 2023 Communiqué. You can find it here.

CRPO GUIDELINES

Guidelines published by CRPO are intended to clarify CRPO’s Professional Practice Standards, providing additional information that will help registrants consider or respond to common situations that arise in practice in a manner aligned with the Standards.

The College would like to hear from you about what topics would be most beneficial and what form they should take. A feedback survey is available here.

There is no deadline for submissions, and responses will be checked periodically to inform ongoing Council and committee work related to the Standards.

AI SCRIBE USE

The Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario recently released a guide on considerations for the health sector when using AI scribes. An associated checklist for using, procuring or creating AI scribes for health purposes has also been released.

Registrants using or considering using AI scribes are encouraged to review the material to ensure their actions align with best practices in the area.

REGISTRANT SIGNING AUTHORITY

CRPO’s survey regarding expanded signing authority remains open.

The College is in discussions with the Government of Ontario regarding the possibility for registrants to have expanded authority for signing government forms related to service provision. Please note that this survey is only open to current registrants, currently or previously practicing applicants, and currently or previously practicing students so that we are able to capture an accurate picture of who is currently or will be providing services as members of the College.

The survey is available here.

For CRPO registrants: Please do not unsubscribe. CRPO uses email to communicate with registrants about important College updates. If you choose to unsubscribe, it is then your responsibility to regularly check our website to keep yourself informed about your College obligations. It is the responsibility of each registrant to make sure CRPO has your current contact information, updated within 30 days of a change, and ensure that the organization you work for does not block CRPO emails. CRPO may collect information about whether a recipient has read a message. CRPO may use this information for communication planning and record-keeping.
