2) - Rabbi's Message

I did not give a D'var Torah during our joint service the second day of Sukkot, but this is what I would have shared. The lulav and etrog combined are four plants all having to water - palm tree, willow, myrtle and citron. The rabbinic tradition recognized other aspects of these species. Based on physical, they compared the palm to the human, the willow to the lips, the myrtle to the eyes and the etrog to the heart. Bringing the together symbolizes the unity of all our faculties to serve God. A more modern interpretation suggests that each component represents the diversity of human cultures and that combining represents coming together as human beings, without sacrificing our uniqueness. Chag sameach.
