2) - Rabbi's Message

Our Torah portion for this Shabbat is Parshat Ha'ahzeenu (Deuteronomy, chapter 32; pp. 896-903 in the Hertz Chumash). On the final day of his life, Moshe sings out a colorful, poetic and prophetic vision of Israel's future - and our complex

relationship with the Holy One. Moshe is then invited to ascend Mt. Nebo (east of the Jordan River) and look out upon the Promised land, where he is never to set foot; he is able, nevertheless, to envision Israel's life in this new homeland. This

Parshah may be found in any Bible (Deut. chapter 32), or you may find it in Etz Hayim (our Conservative Chumash, on pp. 1185-95) along with modern translation and commentaries, as well as the Haftarah, at this link:

https://www.rabbinicalassembly.org/sites/default/files/2021-09/haazinu-etz-hayim.pdf

Our Haftarah this Shabbat is a poetic song by David, from the book of 2nd Samuel, chapter 22. At the end of his life, the renowned king and warrior sings a hymm of victory and thanksgiving to the Holy One, for all the protection and favor

he has received over the course of his life. You may find this Haftarah in any Bible, in the Hertz Chumash on pp. 904-8, and in Etz Hayim on pp. 1196-1201.

I look forward to enjoying Shabbat together with you and our synagogue family. I also hope you will plan to join us for our celebration of the Sukkot holiday, beginning Monday evening and Tuesday (Oct. 6-7) of this coming week. Shabbat Shalom & Chag Same'ach,

Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Yechiel
