2) - Rabbi's Message

PARSHAT HA-SHAVU’A - In this week's Torah portion - Parshat

Lech-Lechah - the Torah moves from the universal landscape of the Creation and the Great Flood to focus on the extraordinary journey of one unique individual and his family - our father Avraham and the family of our matriarchs and patriarchs. Avram is addressed personally by the Holy One, given blessings and challenges and promises, and guided to a new land, to a sacred destiny and to a unique relationship with the Holy One. The experiences of this extraordinary spiritual pioneer, Avraham, would influence the fate of many nations and help shape the

character of the Jewish people. “I have singled him out,” says the Holy One, “so that he may inspire his children and his posterity ... to keep My ways, the ways of righteousness and justice”. (Genesis 18:19)

This Parshah may be found in any Bible, in Genesis, chapters 12-17. In the Hertz Chumash it is on pp. 45-60, and in Etz Hayim on pp. 69-93. You may also find it at this link:

https://www.sefaria.org/Genesis.12.1-17.27?lang=bi&aliyot=0

Our reading from the Prophets, the Haftarah, is once again a poetic passage by Yeshayahu of Babylonia, found in the book of Isaiah 40:27-41:16. In the Hertz Chumash it is on pp. 60-62; in Etz Hayim, pp. 95-98. You may also read Isaiah's words at this link: https://www.sefaria.org/Isaiah.40.27-41.16?lang=bi

I look forward to enjoying Shabbat together with you and our synagogue family.

Shabbat Shalom, Rabbi Yechiel
