CCUSD Parents Invited to Attend Digital Safety Night and Parent Mixer on Tuesday Night
Raising children in the age of smartphones and social media brings new challenges and concerns for all families. That’s why we are inviting you to the CCMS Digital Safety Night and Parent Mixer hosted by the PTSA Tuesday, February 6 at 6:30pm in the CCMS Multipurpose Room to celebrate Safer Internet Day 2018, which promotes safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones among children and young people.
During this event you’ll learn about Smart Talk, an interactive website created by National PTA and LifeLock, a Symantec company, to help families and kids talk about using digital devices responsibly.

With so many kids receiving new smartphones and tablets for holiday presents, it’s important for us to set some smart ground rules for technology use.
Let’s kick off the New Year right by having “The Smart Talk” with our kids Feb. 6!
Dinner and childcare for elementary and preschool children will be provided, but we need you to let us know you’re coming!
Please send all RSVP’s and questions to ccmsptsapresident@gmail.com. All RSVP’s must be received by January 31.
The Actors' Gang Brings Social Studies to Life
After studying Mesopotamia for six weeks, Natalie Gualtieri’s sixth-grade social studies class stepped out of their classrooms and onto the proverbial stage when The Actors’ Gang visited Culver City Middle School. Four company members from The Actors’ Gang, who work as teaching artists with TAG’s Education Department, integrated themselves into CCMS’s unit on Mesopotamia.
As class began, The Actors’ Gang instructors introduced themselves, Adam, Luis, Emily and Paulette, and established some agreements. After leading the students through some tried and true theatre warm up exercises, the Gang launched into the subject matter. “You be the teachers,” they said to the students. “Pretend we know nothing about Mesopotamia. Educate us.”
The students called out four main subjects: The Standard of Ur, The Epic of Gilgamesh, Hammurabi’s Code, Mesopotamian Empires. While these are colorful names on paper, they really came to life when The Actors’ Gang got involved and prompted the students to fill in more details about each subject: “polytheism,” “Superman,” “an eye for an eye,” “early technology.”
After the students clued in the instructors with more details on Mesopotamian history, they broke up into four groups to create living tableaus about each subject. One instructor guided each group to write, cast and rehearse a vignette about their subject – on the spot. Then each group presented their tableau to their fellow classmates, who acted as audience members and critics.

Support CCUSD Schools, Run the Screenland 5K
Run with your family and friends through exciting downtown Culver City, along Culver and Washington Boulevards and help raise money for CCUSD schools.

Proceeds from the March 4 race will benefit the Culver City Education Foundation and its efforts to improve our schools.

Start on Culver Boulevard and Main Street – “The Shortest Main Street in the U.S.” –
Run past the Historic Culver Hotel where the Munchkins stayed while filming “The Wizard of Oz” down the street at the former MGM, now Sony Pictures. Follow the course as it winds down Culver and Washington Boulevards! Pass near Culver City’s own Metro Expo Line station which is being redeveloped as Ivy Station as an exciting mixed use facility with shops, restaurants, a hotel and ample parking for all.
Culver City is truly “The Heart of Screenland,” so come in costume representing your favorite movie character. Start under the Rainbow and finish on the Red Carpet into Media Park where you will join fellow finishers to celebrate your accomplishment. Wear your finisher medal proudly.

CCHS ASB Ramping Up Culver for a Cause Run
On April 14, CCHS Associated Student Body will be hosting the Culver for a Cause Charity Run for the City of Culver City on the CCHS campus. Proceeds will be directed towards the CCUSD Culver Closet, which helps provide clothing and toiletry items to CCUSD families in need. Some proceeds will also be donated to help Peruvian women gain an access to education because we believe that it is important for our community members, who are lucky enough to have easy access to education, to support those in developing areas who cannot afford to attend school.

The Run will begin and finish at the Culver City High School track, and will also run through CCMS and Farragut Elementary School. The event will begin at 10am on April 14.
There will be entertainment, food, T-shirts, and medals. If you are a part of an organization or business and are interested in becoming a vendor or sponsor, this event will be a great opportunity for public advertisement.
