Dear Families and Community,
It was another great week in Culver City Unified School District! As we continue through the opening weeks of the school year, I remain energized by the learning taking place in our classrooms and the tremendous involvement of our families and community. That partnership is an important part of what makes CCUSD such a special place for our students.
This week, it was wonderful to attend Back to School Night at La Ballona Elementary School and El Marino Language Academy. I had the opportunity, along with members of our Board of Education, to visit several classrooms and see so many parents and families supporting our schools. I also attended Back to School Day at Linwood E. Howe Elementary School and continue to be impressed by the tremendous turnout for a daytime event. Thank you to our families for making the time to participate and partner with our schools!
Our next Regular Board of Education Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 8, 2026. Please visit the district website for the agenda and meeting information. In the coming weeks, our Assistant Superintendent of Business Services will also share additional information regarding meetings with our Community Budget Advisory Committee (CBAC) and Sustainability Committee. We will also meet with our School Connected Organizations (SCOs) to review the new Board Policy related to gifts and fundraising, as well as the volunteer process, which will be covered by our new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, Dr. Hector Galicia. These opportunities are important as we continue strengthening communication, collaboration, and alignment across our district.
I look forward to another exciting week ahead, including upcoming Back to School events at El Rincon and Farragut Elementary Schools. It has been wonderful connecting with our families across the district, and I look forward to seeing many more of you in the weeks ahead.
As always, we recognize that families have choices when it comes to their child's education, and we are grateful that you have entrusted us with serving your students. I am also pleased to report that our current enrollment is 6,591 students, which is higher than last year. This is encouraging news for our district and reflects the continued confidence families place in our schools and programs. We remain committed to providing a high-quality educational experience and to partnering with you every step of the way.
Finally, as we head into the holiday weekend, I wish our entire CCUSD community a happy, relaxing, and safe Labor Day Weekend!
With Gratitude,
Dr. Alfonso Jiménez
Superintendent
Culver City Unified School District

Estimadas Familias y Comunidad,
Superintendente

Centaurs Open Season With Big Win,
Face Redondo Tonight in Rivalry Game
| | |
Whenever Culver City High School's athletic teams play South Bay schools it's considered a rivalry game, but when coaches that grew up together and they face off against each other, it's a double rivalry. That's what is going to take place Friday night at Jerry Chabola Stadium at 7 p.m. when the Centaurs and Coach Jahmal Wright take on Redondo and Wright's old friend, Sea Hawks' Coach Keith Ellison.
CCHS head coach Wright will lead his Centaurs (1-0) against Ellison's Sea Hawks (2-0) in a game that should have plenty of fireworks on the football field.
"Once the game starts, we don't think about any of that stuff," said Wright last Sunday. "We just coach our teams and try to win the game, but honestly Keith and his brother Chris Ellison are like family. They are like brothers to me. It's always fun playing against a family member."
Wright continued to talk about the rivalry.
"During the season we wish each other well, but we are competitors just like when we played football growing up. We have a lot of respect for each other. Keith has done a really good job revitalizing the Redondo program. They played in the CIF finals last year. We can expect a hard-fought battle on Friday night. They know us very well and we know them very well, so it should be a good high school football game."
The Centaurs opened their season last Friday night at Culver City against King/Drew, a Los Angeles City section team. The final score was CCHS 46, King/Drew 26. The Centaurs were led by senior quarterback Nicholas Hoang (pictured) who threw six touch downs.
"I thought Nic did a good job of spreading the ball around," said Wright. "We had four receivers catch touchdown passes. All five of the receivers that played had a significant impact on the game. The whole receiving core did a good job."
