The first week of September had a great event to introduce the Church Gathering. Rev. Donna Ives conducted a beautiful Vesper Service at Pine Island. Over 20 people enjoyed music, communion, message and a gorgeous sunset. Thanks to Donna and all the people that helped out.

Should anyone need pastoral services please contact Marty at the office or one of the pastors.

A thank you to Helen D’Angelo for leading us in prayer.

Lisa talked about our financial condition. We have been paying all our bills, but it is running close.

On Saturday we had a Council workshop to work on plans for the next few months. Rev. Ives presented plans for the next four months’ services. Barb (vice-moderator) talked about the exit interview she and the rest of the committee conducted. After her report considerable time was used for church council and congregation members to share their feelings about it. We thank all that participated. Again, the Gathering Committee’s plan was reviewed and found to be workable with the reminder that if Covid-19 conditions in the area change the plan will change as needed. We started to talk about fundraisers and really made no decisions.

There are three committees we need: Interim Search Committee, Profile Committee and Pastoral Search Committee.

  • The Interim Search Committee will be made up of three members: one Council member and two Congregation members. If you would like to serve on this committee send Marty Hodgkins an e-mail and she will put you on the list to be voted on at the Sept. Council meeting. This committee will work with the district minister. The work will start Oct 1st.
  • The Profile Committee will create a new profile of the church. This time it should not take as much time to do as the last one. The Florida Conference has made it easier to create. This committee will be made up of two Council members and five Congregation members. If you would like to serve on this committee send Marty Hodgkins an e-mail (martyhodgkins@gmail..com) and she will put you on the list to be voted on at the Sept. Council meeting. This committee will work with our District Minister, Council, and Congregation. The work will start Oct 1st.
  • The Pastoral Search Committee will interview and select a settled minister. This committee will be made up of two Council members and five Congregation members. If you would like to serve on this committee send Marty Hodgkins an e-mail and she will put you on the list to be voted on at the Sept. Council meeting. This committee will start after the profile is finished.

The Bylaw Committee will be meeting again to clarify some language in the document.

The first in-house Sunday service went great. Rev. Jerry Jones led the service with the help of music by Dave VanHorn, and electronics by Enrique Martinez. Also thanks to Donna, Chance, Cindy, Alice, Gale, Lisa, Barb, and Otto for their contributions to the service. Thank you to all the other people that helped make this first in-house service a big success. This week’s donations were $3,442 which is the highest I have seen in a long time - this sum resulted from 30 donations, but remember this was the first week of the month and that is generally the largest for the month (budgeted monthly amount is $14,000). We could use that every week. To those who donated and those who are going to - a big THANK YOU. Our Sunday service had 30 people in Fellowship Hall and 7 in the parking lot listening on the radio station. The service was also viewed 123 times on Facebook and YouTube.
WE ARE IN NEED OF A TREASURER NOW.
PLEASE THINK IT OVER IF YOU COULD SPEND A COUPLE OF HOURS A WEEK. CALL LISA (263-8168) PLEASE

Last February the Social Justice & Community Engagement Ministry started a partnership with Spring Hill Elementary to provide healthy snacks for teachers to distribute to children to give them a much needed boost to focus on learning.

We are pleased that we can resume our "Food for Thought" program with the school. When you drop off food items for Loaves & Fishes," please include single-serving snack items such as applesauce, fruit snacks, goldfish pretzels, cereal etc. The administration is very grateful for our continued support of the children and teachers at SHES. We also were able to drop off a dozen backpacks, many art supplies, and information about "Loaves & Fishes" to the school.

If you have any questions, please contact Marty Hodgkins at 352-610-4286.

THIS SATURDAY

SHUCC Men's Club,

Due to COVID-19 it has been a long time since we have crossed paths. Our lives have been enormously disrupted. Hopefully, we will re-gather on Saturday September 12 at 9:00 AM in Fell. Hall. I write this with caution, and do under- stand our meeting is dependent upon
COVID-19 protocols at that time.

  • Wear a face mask
  • Make every effort to properly space ourselves in order to keep our time together both safe and short.

We will not be able to use the kitchen to prepare and serve our usually hearty breakfast, so coffee and donuts will be provided. This will be a good time to plan our 2020-21 agenda.

PLEASE RSVP to me at daclamrev1@gmail.com
 Until then be well,
Jerry Jones, Men's Club President
