Christ Church Episcopal is a place for you to gather, grow, and serve in Jesus' name
Special musical offering at worship this Sunday
What a blessing to have UVA a capella group CHoosE (Christian Hoos Exalt) sing during worship this Sunday, October 10 at 11:00 AM. More than just a singing group, CHoosE is a family built on the radical unity of Christ, loving and serving each other with intentionality and strengthening themselves for ministry at UVA and beyond. Do you recognize a familiar face above? CCE's own Cathryn Palmer is a member of this group!

They are based on the verse Joshua 24:15 "...choose this day whom you will serve... but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

The sacrament of Baptism is a beginning. Is there an opportunity for Baptism in your life?
We begin a Christian life by being baptized. Through the water of Baptism, we are born into God’s family, and we become part of the Body of Christ, the Church. We receive forgiveness of sin and new life in the Holy Spirit.

Advent and Christmas are almost upon us. If you’ve been considering baptism for yourself or for your child, please contact Rev. Shirley right away to be scheduled for our baptisms on October 24 or November 7.
Covid Update: An important note from Rev. Shirley
Friends, the church has been notified that two people, in the same family, attending worship at the 9 AM service on October 3, have tested positive for Covid. Both were vaccinated and wearing masks. This is a good reminder that the virus is in circulation and that you should take precautions that are appropriate for you, in balance with your other social, emotional, and spiritual needs. Worship in person and online continue to be offered. If you have any questions, please call or email me. - Rev. Shirley.
Lay Eucharist Ministers: training this Sunday for those who would like to offer the elements during Holy Communion
Did you know the term Eucharist is from the Greek, "thanksgiving"? It is the principal act in Christian worship. Lay Eucharistic Ministers are trained to offer the body and blood of Christ -- the bread and the cup -- during worship on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in becoming a trained LEM, you can attend the Zoom training this Sunday at 12:00 PM or contact Lee Muckey to learn more. | The link for the Zoom training and contact information for Lee Muckey are listed in Realm. If you need help with Realm, please contact staff.
Tech Guru? Is that you? Consider being trained to assist our Audio Visual Ministry
At Christ Church, worship certainly is the work of the people. We are blessed by a few dedicated souls who assist each Sunday morning with sound, projection, and live-streaming of our worship services. This is a special way to give back to Christ Church and participate in worship in a meaningful way. If you'd like to learn more about helping with this ministry, please contact Keith Tan. Ample training is provided!
Spend some time at the farm and your spirit will be renewed! Your work = fresh food for folks with food insecurity
The mission of Shalom Farms is to work with communities to ensure access to healthy food and the support to live healthy lives. Through sustainable food production and hands-on experiences at the farm and in the city, Shalom Farms provides thousands in Richmond with access to healthy food…and healthy lives.

UPCOMING SERVE DATES: THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9 & TUESDAY, OCTOBER 12
Christ Church is committed to serving one Tuesday and one Saturday each month. On Saturdays, we join our friends from West End Islamic Center, so it's an opportunity to provide food for those in need and extend a hand of hospitality to our Muslim neighbors. To sign up, please contact lay leader Kevin Van Natta. Kevin's contact information is listed in our online database, Realm. If you need help with Realm, or with obtaining contact info, please contact staff. We're happy to help!
Episcopal Church Women will gather October 30 to Proclaim the Dream
Join the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) at the 131st Fall Meeting and Luncheon on Saturday, October 30. The Rev. Dr. John Kinney will present the program entitled "Proclaiming the Dream: Sharing the Faith of Jesus." After lunch, the Bishop and the Very Rev. Kim Coleman, ECW chaplain, will lead us in a worship service.
Youth Confirmation Program for 9th and 10th graders is starting soon
Youth Confirmation is starting in October and we’re encouraging any youth in 9th or 10th grade (or older) to consider participating in this important faith milestone. Confirmation is one of three sacramental rites in the Episcopal Church! And it’s a chance for our young people to affirm for themselves the covenant of Baptism and become a young adult in the faith. The cohort meets roughly twice a month throughout the school year. If you know a 9th or 10th grader that’s interested in getting confirmed in the spring of 2022, please contact Adam Williams, Minister to Students.
Is Family Worship a good fit for you or someone you know?
Family Worship is ideal for kids, parents, and grandparents, as well as adults who enjoy being around the energy and spirit that comes from all ages being together.

Families will gather again this Sunday at 9 AM for a time of active participation from all ages. Bring your whole selves, move around, and worship God. The liturgy is meaningful and accessible, relevant to people of all ages and in all stages of life. If this fits you, please give it a try -- and please share with others who might enjoy this service!
Your financial support brought books to kids in need. Thank you.
Last week, 406 children's books were donated to Henry Marsh Elementary School, thanks to your generosity. Your financial support allows robust missions and outreach ministries. Lay leader Donna Crawford had the pleasure of dropping off the books, which will be used in the classroom, and also sent home with students to instill a lifelong love of reading. Donna is pictured here in the middle of Armoni (left), and Cameron (right), the Communities In Schools coordinators at HMES. Thank you, Christ Church, for your boundless missions!
