Christmas is nearly upon us as we celebrate the Fourth Sunday of Advent, and there is much to anticipate. We have a rich offering of joyous and inspirational music prepared for this Sunday’s service.
Because of last week’s storm, the handbell choir will ring this Sunday instead. One thing you may not have considered is just how interdependent a bell choir truly is—if even one ringer is absent, the ensemble cannot perform. Our heartfelt thanks go to all of our dedicated bell ringers for their commitment and flexibility.
Larry Allen will be with us Sunday to accompany the choir in two wonderful works: William Matthias’s rousing setting of Psalm 24:7–10, Lift Up Your Heads, O Ye Gates, and Charles Villiers Stanford’s G-major setting of the Magnificat, the “Song of Mary.”
We hope you will plan to arrive early on Christmas Eve to enjoy bells, choir, and soloists offering music of the season. The prelude will begin at 2:45 p.m. Most of this year’s choral music will be unaccompanied carols, many of them familiar and beloved. It promises to be a beautiful celebration of our Lord’s birth.
Come, Lord Jesus!
