A LETTER FROM STUDENT SAMANTHA RAMIREZ

If you had asked me a year ago what my future looked like, I’m not sure I would have had a clear answer.

After high school, I felt stuck. I wanted to stay close to home, but with only one local four-year university and the high cost of tuition and living expenses, my options felt limited. I didn’t get into Cal Poly, and I didn’t want to take on a financial burden that would follow me—or my family—for years.

At one point, I remember thinking, I’m running out of options.

Then I heard about The Cuesta Promise.

Choosing Cuesta College changed everything for me.

Today, I’m studying biology and working toward my goal of becoming a pediatrician. I’ve had professors who know my name and truly care about my success. I’ve found support not just academically, but personally—through resources like mental health services and a community that wants me to succeed.

Through The Cuesta Promise and scholarship support, I’ve been able to focus on my education instead of financial stress. Receiving that support felt like someone was saying, “We believe in you.” And that belief matters more than I can put into words.

Now, I’m not just going to college—I’m building a future.

As high school seniors across San Luis Obispo County make their college decisions, I hope they know this: Choosing Cuesta is not a backup plan. It’s a powerful first step.

Because of Cuesta—and because of donors who invest in students like me—I’m on my way to becoming a pediatrician our community needs.

And one day, I hope to give back in the same way—so another student can feel what I felt: that someone believes in them.

With gratitude,

Samantha

YOUR IMPACT

Crowdfunding in Action

Across Cuesta College, students are gaining access to opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom—thanks to the collective support of our community.

Through our crowdfunding platform, more than 850 supporters have come together this year to invest in programs across campus—from Athletics to Fine and Performing Arts to hands-on academic experiences.

Supporters are helping student-athletes compete, enabling performing arts students to travel and perform, and expanding opportunities in programs like Robotics—where students are designing underwater technology used in environmental research.

Each of these efforts reflects something bigger: when our community comes together, students are able to say yes—to competing, to creating, to innovating, and to pursuing what’s possible.

Because of you, these opportunities are not out of reach—they are happening now.

Cuesta Conservatory Award Audition Concert

Friday, April 10, 2026 | 7:30 p.m. | Harold J. Miossi CPAC

Join us for the 2nd Annual Cuesta Conservatory Award Audition Concert!

Cuesta College has been a bright light in music education on the Central Coast for decades. Now, with the Cuesta Conservatory program, we have created a premier cohort of talented and committed students to do something special at Cuesta. While just in its first year, this program has been a wonderful success!

Cuesta Conservatory Award students perform in our ensembles and reach out to the community while focusing on growing their musicianship and personal development. This program is a way for advanced students to focus on their music studies without distraction. Laureates receive $10,000 per year, meet regularly with a mentor, and conduct community service related to music. Our goal is to do everything possible to prepare these students for success in the world of music.

Thank you to our 2025-2026 CPAC Sponsors Warren and Linda Balfour and to the incredible donors who make the Cuesta Conservatory Award possible.
