“Christmas works like glue.

It keeps us all sticking together.”

– Rosie Thomas

I could write a book about Christmas in Elkhorn.

Chapters would read,

BE A PLANNER NOT A POOPER

WHAT THE FLUFF?...PLANNING FOR SNOW

ANGRY ELF 101

and let's not forget

OVERCOMING GLITTER!

But at the heart of this story would be a chapter entitled SAINTS OF SERVICE. The chapter would be dedicated to the volunteer effort made by the countless men, women and youth of our community. No amount of planning or emailing or excel spreadsheet creation can compare or share the spotlight with the level of eager volunteering we see from Elkhorn natives.

The amount of manpower required to light the tree, march the parade and pull off Let It Glow is not accomplished via two staff members. It's only possible when an entire community steps up and takes part! The EASD grade school choirs, along with Tim Shiroda, hosted the annual Tree Lighting ceremony where Santa, Mrs. Claus and a special helper arrived to ignite the holiday season with the lighting of Whitt Von Spruce! 66 parade entries rolled through town on Saturday to celebrate the 42nd Christmas Card Town parade with two staff and 6 volunteers facilitating the festivities! Not to mention the 15 costumed volunteers who helped hand out candy, carry banners and spread Christmas cheer along the way.

Let It Glow required two full weeks of location transformation which was coordinated with 30+ teens from Career & College Academy and the Youth Builders program. Additional helper elves (Amanda, Shelly, Eric & William) came during the day and night to help string lights, pack batteries, stuff candy bags, fluff trees and string garland. Three teams of volunteers, one arriving each night of Let It Glow, played the part of Santa's helpers for all the families eager to see Santa and enjoy some holiday fun! Cookies were decorated, magical reindeer food was packed and children went home with a renewed Christmas twinkle in their eye.

"Oh what fun" doesn't fully capture all the holiday hoopla and winter flare that took place here in the Elkhorn Community. To truly understand you must come and see. As this year winds down and we all take a moment to reflect, it's my hope you'll also spend time being intentional about what you plan for the new year. Consider your time, consider your talents and consider the treasures you might share when you think about what's yet to come! The holiday season, the season of giving, is in full swing! We wish you a joyful month and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you for being part of the Elkhorn Chamber and part of this amazing community.

#Tis the Season,
