An Invitation to Observe.
The thing about holidays, in any culture at any time, is that people tend to gather who sometimes don't see each other all that often. That makes it the perfect time to observe what connects us and keeps us linked to each other in the here and now, while hopefully also celebrating the differences that make each person unique in the cosmos.
In such divisive times across the globe, remembering our similarities might bring about more under-standing and empathy, leading to more positive actions.
Take a look at your Circles of Friends, selected by common interests and experiences, often lasting longer that some familial relationships.
Those Family Circles have always been the stuff of drama, from sibling rivalries to rebellious kids, unfaithful spouses to wicked step-parents. Yet there are lots of stories about loyalty, friendship, commitment, mentoring, and delight. Seeing family traits appear across the generations can lead to musings about genetic memory, epigenetic traits, and ancestor worship. Are we doomed by our genes? How can we emphasize Nurture over Nature? And how influence the enhancement of future humans? And whose agenda reigns in that field?
Besides the conscious selection of Circles of Friends and the unconscious mechanisms of the Circles of Family, just think how interconnected we are by our mere existence to everything else that exists in the cosmos. After all, we all started out in the Big Bang.
Look at what you're holding, or eating, or engaging with. How many individual creatures were involved in creating that and getting it to you? If it's food, you've got bees and birds, soil and water, farmers and packagers and transporters and all the myriad others involved in making that possible, from manufacturers of tires to logistics clerks and so many more.
If it's a thing like your cell phone, what went into its creation? Miners [who are often also minors] in the Democratic Republic of Congo, stevedores loading the ships, people who built the ships, advertisers who let you know which phone is the coolest...and on it goes.
As far as our impact on the planet, there's plenty out there about that. It is obviously and truly a One Life and it extends beyond our planet. So how can we better fit in with and help promote this One Life?
You tell us. What are your ideas?
May you all enjoy a festive, thoughtful, yet very fun Holiday Season!

The Mars Society Annual Convention was an amazing gathering of people from NASA to middle schools, SpaceX to Chinese space companies, recycling inventors, and more.
The 2-1/2 days of presentations included topics on engineering, social engineering, entry-descent-landing, habitats, terra-forming, aquaponics, radiation sails and radiation protections, medicine, law, economics, and interpersonal dynamics.
I'm still reviewing notes and watching videos of the presentations I did not get to attend because there were so many interesting things happening at once.
Here at the Mars Society YouTube channel you can see a number of them from this 22nd Annual Convention.
And here is the twenty-minute video
of my presentation
"Applied Mythology for Space Exploration", giving the ArchePaths as a method for selecting who'll go to Mars. [
Starts about 02:00 into the recording.]
I also give the ArchePaths presentations, workshops and consultations for organizations and individuals.
Email for information on how these classic archetypes can enhance your teamwork and communications, as well as yourself.

Thanks to Monty Hayes McMillan for the initial idea and lots of information and guidance in this presentation and also the article on the "First Gods of Mars" which is included in the Official Library for the Mars Society. [It's at the very last of the list.]

Paul Picerni has a new children's Birthday book
This time, it's BEING THREE IS THE BEST AGE TO BE.
We find little Sophia, our birthday girl, riding up in a ski lift chair with her big sister Maria. She explains, "Most of the snow has now disappeared. The winter is gone and the summer has neared."
Then, as the girls climb higher toward the mountaintop, Sophia notices, "It seems to get colder the higher we go. And now it seems that there is more snow."
Sophia is surprised once exiting the ski lift at the top of the mountain by her friends who have planned a fun day playing in the snow. Not all goes as planned though, as Sophia explains, "They say when I'm older some things I'll forget. Sharing cake with a bear, I'll remember, I'll bet." The ride down the ski is no less an adventure as echoes bounce off mountainsides invigorating the excitement, which is captured in colorful illustrations.
See Paul's other Birthday Books for different ages alongside this new one on Amazon. Perfect for the kids on your calendar.

WHICH REALITY? VR, AR, XR...
Carolyn Miller's latest edition of "Digital Storytelling" includes the technologies of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Mixed Reality and Social Media storytelling.
Sure, story is still story, but the forms and formats available today offer creatives a much wider range of choices.
I've always found Carolyn's books and presentations both very informative and also inspiring. No matter what genre or style of story you're doing, "Digital Storytelling" can help you do it better.
Lost in Translation? Yeah, very possibly so.
What's in a name for an emotion? That depends on what language and what culture.
New research shows that
the true meaning of words may be lost in translation, according to research suggesting the way people understand terms such as "anger" or "love" differs between languages.
These differences in terms for different types of Love is what inspired us to write SHOW ME THE LOVE! All Kinds of Love for All Kinds of Stories.
In our book we address Love of Family, Love of Adventure, Love of Country, Love of Death and Destruction, Chivalric Transformative Love, and more.

A treasure trove of books, movies, songs, and cartoons.
On January 1, tens of thousands of books (as well as movies, songs, and cartoons) entered the public domain, meaning that people
can download, share, or repurpose
these works for free and without retribution under US copyright law.
