April 2025 Newsletter

Dear Neighbor,

For the past year, I have had the honor and privilege to serve as the Vice Mayor in addition to my duties as District 2 Commissioner.  As Vice Mayor of the City, you are not only required to formally step in for the mayor on the dais, but also to represent the City at events no matter how big or small. This past year as Vice Mayor was particularly special as I was able to hold that title when some of District 2’s biggest projects were completed and major City celebrations took place.

The openings of Marina Village, DC Alexander Park, Las Olas Marina; the Fort Lauderdale Monopoly Board reveal; the Aquatics Complex; War Memorial and the IcePlex; and, OF COURSE, the Panthers’ Parade were just a few of the amazing events where I was able to represent the city as your Vice Mayor. I am so proud to serve this City and continue to work collaboratively with my colleagues and neighbors as we move Fort Lauderdale forward.

Thank you for an incredible year serving as Vice Mayor. Fort Lauderdale is blessed to have so many engaged and passionate residents and together there is nothing we cannot accomplish!

Congratulations Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale!

Fort Lauderdale's Riverwalk just ranked #7 in the nation in USA Today's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards 2025! From scenic strolls to historic gems like the Stranahan House, this mile-long treasure along the New River is truly in a league of its own. Right in our backyard!

The Central Beach Alliance always gets an astounding number of beach residents attending its monthly meetings and it is always a pleasure when I’m invited to attend and discuss the latest barrier island and City issues and projects. Great agenda and great group!

Excited to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for the NE 12th Street extension because in addition to a paved street where there was none, we also improved infrastructure with curbs, gutters, stormwater management and more. So proud of our neighborhood advocates, especially the Central City Alliance and Middle River Terrace Neighborhood Association for pushing and working with the City to make this happen. This project means safer streets, better drainage and a more connected community. Great teamwork lead by the City and FG Construction brought real progress!

I had the pleasure of presenting a proclamation proclaiming April 15, 2025 as Arbor Day in the City of Fort Lauderdale. Arbor Day has been observed throughout the United States for over 150 years, emphasizing the importance of conservation efforts as trees play a crucial role in building healthier, safer, and more connected communities by providing shade, cooling cities by up to 10 degrees, and helping to prevent heat-related illnesses and deaths in urban areas.

Accepting the proclamation was our very own Laura Tooley, Urban Forester Supervisor at the City of Fort Lauderdale. Thank you for your work and for all the local, state, and national recognition our City of Fort Lauderdale policies have garnered.
