Dear Neighbor,
I cannot believe that the holiday season is upon us! On November 19, we celebrated “Light Up the Beach” with an unbelievable crowd and an equally impressive turnout at our city’s newest tradition, the Tree Lighting at Bahia Mar’s Marina Village where we lit the tallest tree in Fort Lauderdale on November 21.
Our neighbors from all parts of the city were so joyous, and the positive energy was palpable. Also, kudos to Nurmi Isles for hosting the first District 2 neighborhood Holiday Party (maybe even the first in the city!) with so many other neighborhoods to follow in the coming weeks! I am so incredibly thankful to spend this time with so many residents in District 2. Your continual feedback, suggestions, and support are such a huge contributing factor to what makes this District so special.
District 2 is officially “Lit Up”!
Happy Thanksgiving and let the holiday season begin!

Fort Lauderdale is a tourist mecca and a City that is booming in so many ways. That is why it is so easy to not notice the less fortunate among us - folks who have a hard time putting together a meal, especially during the holidays. For the 10th year, I was once again blown away by the spirit and generosity of our neighbors as thousands lined up at the Grocery and Turkey Giveaway Food Distribution at Sanctuary Church (one of my favorite, coolest buildings in the city). Cars stretched south on Federal around Sunrise to the east to the Galleria Mall beginning at 2:30 am. Hundreds of volunteers pitched in supplied by the sponsors listed on the attached flyer. A debt of gratitude to Michael Albetta, Broward County Property Appraiser Marty Kiar and his staff, Food Rescue US, AHF, St. Anthony's Church, Pastor Black and Sanctuary Church, Police, Fire, Mobile Mike and so many more. A beautiful show of love and caring when the world needs it so badly; I love this town!

A new tradition was born! The tallest Christmas tree in Fort Lauderdale was lit at the Marina Village at Bahia Mar in front of more than 1,300 in attendance. The Shorely was rocking, and the vibe was electric as the carolers and musicians entertained the crowd. It even snowed! If you missed this inaugural lighting, then be there next year!

Always a pleasure to be with and speak to the membership of the Central Beach Alliance -CBA. As always, an excellent agenda and a terrific opportunity for the beach residents to meet and hear from our new City Manager. Thank you to all our staff and police for your participation!
| | | The holiday spirit in the air was contagious! A massive crowd of thousands gathered for “Light Up the Beach” at the Las Olas Oceanside Park (LOOP) and a great time was had by all! This event gets bigger and better each year! Fort Lauderdale is so alive and thriving and the residents and visitors “oohed” and “aahed” as the children flipped the switch for more than 50,000 lights. No better place to be on November 19 than 75 degree Fort Lauderdale Beach! | | | It was a pleasure to present a City Commission Proclamation honoring the 10th Annual Unity in the Community Thanksgiving Grocery and Turkey Giveaway at Sanctuary Church. Remarkable people contributing so much for the less fortunate in our community. See you Saturday! | | | Equality Florida, formed in 1997, is the largest civil rights organization dedicated to securing full equality for our state’s LGBTQ+ residents. It was important to attend, along with more than 500 supporters, the “Broward Gala.” So much has been accomplished over the years, but these are very challenging times and there is so much more work to do; witness the attacks these past four State legislative sessions. Discrimination in Florida is not acceptable- we are better than this and must always strive to lift up all our citizens, not demean, marginalize, and divide. The LGBTQ+ community will not be erased. | | | |
The greatness of our community starts with passionate citizens like you.
