Monday, April 20th - Neighborhood Agenda Review at 4:00pm on Zoom

In March, I had the honor of participating in the Annual Women in Action Seminar, "A Day of Redemption," at Whiddon-Rogers Education Center with Commissioner Beasley-Pittman. I appreciated hearing from law enforcement professionals and individuals who shared personal journeys of accountability, transformation, and positive change. It was an impactful experience that reinforced the importance of empowering young women with the tools and support needed to make informed, responsible decisions for their future. Thank you to Principal Wylie Howard and Dr. Beverly Carter Remy for organizing and facilitating this event.

Last week, we partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Broward County to provide ten teens with hands-on career exploration through a 1-day internship. The teens had the opportunity to shadow employees in our City's Information Technology, Strategic Communications, Fire and Police Departments. It was incredibly rewarding to see the impact that just one day had on the students' perspectives on their future career paths. Three students were inspired to join the Police Explorers Program after connecting with officers. These pictures were during our debrief over lunch. I look forward to advocating for more hands-on educational opportunities for our city's youth.

From community meetings to debriefing Spring Break with the City's clean team, it's been an energizing month of connecting with our community!

Volunteer Today

Volunteers play an important role in strengthening and enhancing the programs and services that Broward Partnership provides. Corporate teams, small community and faith-based groups, as well as individuals who want to make a tangible difference are all welcomed.

Opportunities may include sorting and organizing donations, hosting a special event or donation drive, and preparing and serving meals through the Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers program. These experiences provide both practical support and moments of dignity and connection for the individuals we serve.

For corporate partners, our Corporate Social Responsibility opportunities are customized on a case-by-case basis to ensure the experience is meaningful and mutually rewarding. The flyer above includes additional information.

Individuals and small groups can view available opportunities by visiting our website at: https://bphi.org/volunteer-opportunities/

For more information about volunteering, please contact Isabella Preble, Marketing and Community Engagement Coordinator, at ipreble@bphi.org or call 954-779-3990 x2203.

Broward Tax Pro - Free Tax Prep Services

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a federal program created 50+ years ago.

This service is provided by trained, certified volunteer tax preparers who will – in

addition to preparing taxes for free – determine an individual’s eligibility for tax credits. Such as the Earned Income Credit, the Child Tax Credit, Education Credits, etc.

EITC (Earned Income Tax Credit): The federal tax credit for eligible low-to-moderate-income working taxpayers reduces the amount of taxes owed and refunds the difference if the credit is larger than the amount owed. The credit changes from year to year and is based on earnings, the number of qualifying children, and filing status.

All eligible taxpayers must be US citizens or legal permanent residents for the entire

year and have lived in the USA for at least six months during the tax year.

For more information about the services, starting in mid-January, taxpayers are

encouraged to:

  • Call 2-1-1
  • Call the VITA Hotline at 954-964-8884, select your preferred language, and
  • hit extension 3.
  • Log onto hispanicunity.org/taxes
  • Visit the nearest VITA site during operating hours
  • Log onto www.irs.gov and search for Free Tax Return Preparation for Qualifying Taxpayers and find the VITA/TCE Locator Tool or call 1-800-906-9887
