Volume 7, Issue 12 | December 2018

We're in the season of Light now, and 2018 is drawing to a close, so it's a perfect time to evaluate the year.
I've been reflecting (what else is new? - I've been a contemplative, philosophical being for as long as I can remember!) about my life as it's been specifically since September when I went back into my own business full-time. How rich it has been! My soul hasn't been this nourished since I relocated from Sedona to Phoenix three years ago to work in the corporate world! Wow.

It is so clear how being a home-based consultant contributes to my overall well-being and joy:
  • New people enter my life continuously through networking, workshops, and referrals. And then, those encounters offer the possibility of relationships both business and social.
  • I am propelled into learning at a greater pace, on a variety of subjects, and in areas that interest me.
  • My creativity is exercised, appreciated, and has no limits.
  • Using as many of my talents, skills, experiences, and knowledge as I have, I am of greater service to others.
  • Scheduling of my time is up to me and is flexible. Hence, I can travel, attend events, support friends, etc. during what would have been my limiting 8 am-5 pm work day schedule.
I am so grateful that the organization I was working in was restructured and my contract became complete. It was another example of "God does for us what we cannot do for ourselves." The light that I am was forced to hide under a bushel and was released to shine, shine, shine!
So as I end this year, I count my blessings (I re-watched "White Christmas" last night!) and eagerly await a new year of adventure in my business and personal life, which these days, once again are gladly intertwined making my spirit soar.
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa, and all the other greetings of this inspiring season! May your light shine brighter - this song should help!

Inspiration and Contemplation
A Gift of Joy

Yesterday at the Unity spiritual center I attend, the minister's talk for the 4th Sunday of Advent was to be on the gift of joy. Unity is a New Thought movement and so one should not expect a dull, ordinary service.

That said, the talk started with the viewing of the video below. I hope you too feel the joy contained within it!

People Making a Difference
The Orthodox Jewish Santa Claus
"As a Jew, we are to be a light unto the world," Rick Rosenthal said, paraphrasing a famous Jewish aphorism from the Bible. "That's one of our jobs. If we can help make people's lives better, we should do that. It's a mitzvah. If we can ease tensions between Jews and non-Jews, we can do that."
Rick Rosenthal accomplishes that by being a full-time, year-round Santa. Read more about this Atlanta, GA resident.

Fun Fact
Three years ago when I gave up full-time website consulting, WordPress powered 18% of all active websites. Now, it's 30%, almost one-third of the Internet! The next most used, Joomla, doesn't even come close at about 3%, and Drupal at about 2%. If comparing only content management systems (CMS), WordPress actually has a whopping 60% of market share!

Even if you're not sure you want to use WordPress or are planning to use a web developer for your new website (and it's not even me!!), acquiring some knowledge about website platforms, search engine optimization, metrics, etc. will help you feel empowered and able to hold an intelligent conversation with a web professional.

Below is my  January 2019 calendar of WordPress workshops. These workshops are hands-on: you will actually work in a real, live website and personally experience working with WordPress.

WordCamp Phoenix 2019
I attended my first WordCamp in January 2013 -- what a challenging time it was in my life! I was living in Sedona, but WordPress folks in the Phoenix area were gathering at the Chandler Center for the Arts, and I was thrilled to get away for the weekend. It was an amazing conference and community of folks with all levels of experience and knowledge.

Now in its 10th year, WordCamp Phoenix 2019 is being held at the Phoenix Convention Center February 15 - 17 -- and it still costs only $50! To learn more, visit  WordCamp Phoenix 2019 .

Wishing you a peaceful and joy-filled holiday season.

May 2019 be a year of adventures beyond your wildest dreams!
