There are several scenarios

Make no mistake, this is not intentional on the part of TJ Maxx. However, even the big retailers need to do their due diligence to ensure this doesn't happen.

Bait and Switch

Many retailers and even the designer boutiques themselves have been victims of this scam. Scammer buys a real bag and returns a fake one. Because the staff is not educated in authentication, especially how to spot a super fake, they accept the return. Scammer gets to keep the real bag and gets their money back for the return of a fake.

Shady Vendors

Their purchasing team is not educated in counterfeits and falls for a shady vendor. Not everyone is counterfeit savvy. If they are not aware of the counterfeit industry, it's easy to fall victim to purchase a fake for resale.

It happens to everyone

There have been unknown fakes sold at many prominent retailers. This includes Overstock and even the original designer boutique itself. It can be a very scary world out there! People will make it their life's work to scam you. Bait and switch is very real and very dangerous.

So what can you do?

Educate yourself. Realize that a "good deal" is probably not. While it's not impossible that a designer item can be found at a fabulous price, it's very rare. Most people know what they have and they know what it's worth.

Only buy from reliable and well known sources. We all love a bargain, but you are taking a huge risk if you aren't purchasing your luxury item from a retailer or website who doesn't have an authentication policy in place. When buying online, check out the policy and see how they are protecting you. Also, be sure everywhere you buy from has a return policy.

Use Credit Cards or PayPal. They will help you get your money back if you end up with a fake. Do not pay by cash, Venmo, Zelle or any other type of payment that will leave you out of luck! Do not pay by PayPal Friends & Family!

Get it authenticated. No matter where you bought it from. Online authentication via photos is fast, reliable, accurate and affordable. There's really no reason not to!
