District Attorney Nancy O’Malley joined Governor Gavin Newsom at a press conference Dec.17 in Dublin, where the governor announced his plan to combat “smash and grab” retail thefts. The plan includes grant funding for local prosecutors to help efficiently and effectively prosecute theft-related crime.
“To the public: I want to assure you that those who are caught and arrested will be prosecuted, and are being prosecuted by my office,” DA O’Malley said.
Also included is a permanent Smash and Grab Enforcement Unit, $30 million in proposed grant funding for local prosecutors in a three year period, and a new organized theft special unit.

ALAMEDA COUNTY DA, AG ANNOUNCE LAWSUIT AGAINST WALMART FOR ILLEGAL DISPOSAL OF HAZARDOUS WASTE |

District Attorney Nancy E. O’Malley, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, along with 11 district attorneys throughout the state, and the California Department of Toxic Substances Control filed a statewide lawsuit Dec. 20, 2021 against Walmart for the illegal disposal of hazardous waste. Those items included the illegal dumping of lithium and alkaline batteries, toxic cleaning supplies, LED lightbulbs, electronic waste and more.
The lawsuit alleges Walmart violated various environmental laws including the Hazardous Waste Control Law.

Defendant Ronyae Haywood was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder for the deaths of Duane Henry Palmer Jr and Tyler Dalton Kline.
Defendant Angel Shavers and Haywood were both convicted of offering an assault weapon for sale.

PEOPLE V CURTIS STANDLEY
On Dec. 13, 2021, a jury found defendant Curtis Standley guilty of the second-degree murder of Jason Coleman with the use of a firearm.
On September 14, 2017 on 42nd Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Telegraph Avenue in Oakland, the defendant stole Coleman’s bicycle and began riding away with it.
