Exploring the United States Census
The 1950 census records were released April 1st, 2022, seventy-two years after the information was gathered.
Join us on Thursday, April 14, at 4:00 PM for "All Things Relative: Finding Family at the Library" a virtual program with historian and librarian Kathy Nielsen. We'll look at the history of the U.S. census, what it can tell us about our ancestors, and what's special about the 1950 census rolls.
Registration closes an hour before the program. Join by Zoom or phone. All episodes are recorded, and can be watched later on YouTube . For more on the 1950 census visit the National Archives which has organized a spring series of programs to celebrate the launch.

Are you good at organizing things and keeping them neat and tidy? Are you able to work quickly and accurately? Do you enjoy physical labor? Monterey Public Library is currently recruiting for a Library Page. Duties include shelving materials, running errands, and loading and pushing heavy carts. An ideal candidate is able to work a consistent schedule 20 hours per week. Available shifts are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:15 to 1:15 or 2:15 to 6:15. The starting rate is $15.14 per hour.

Middle and high school students will share 3 -5 minute presentations on local history topics. Cash awards are offered for best use of resources, creativity, and balanced perspectives.
