A note about re-opening:
The History Center Staff and Board are actively discussing when and how re-opening will occur. For now, the Thomasville History Center and Lapham-Patterson House will remain closed to the public. We are working hard behind the scenes to ensure that when we do reopen our doors, we are doing so in the safest ways possible   and in a way that honors our work within the community. Thank you for your patience and continued support!
Summer Camps
We are sad to announce that this year's scheduled Camp Dawson and Camp LPH programs have been canceled out of an abundance of caution and in effort to help the community to continue on its path toward recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
We weighed the many options of revising our camp structure but feel that this is the best option for the health and safety of our campers, their families, and the community. The History Center staff are developing ways to bring the fun and adventure of our history camps into your homes. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to welcoming your campers back to the History Center soon for more museum mischief.
Distraction Digest
May 4- May 8
Instead of moving chronologically through the history of Thomas County, our next several Digests will focus on a weekly theme that appears throughout the story of our community. This week, we will explore the concept of preservation.

Thomas Countians and particularly, the city of Thomasville, has shown great interest in the preservation of its community history. Whether adapting and reusing historic structures, rehabilitating historic neighborhoods, or establishing organizations, initiatives, and institutions dedicated to the region’s cultural heritage, the result is a community that recognizes and promotes the relevance of its rich history.

Using this theme as our inspiration for the week, we hope you enjoy what we have to offer!

Dawson Street Neighborhood
Wednesday, May 6
Explore what the museum does and how it cares for and shares the stories of our community. Make your own exhibit using items and images found in your home.

Go on a "tour" of the History Center's historic buildings and learn about the people who brought those spaces to life. Each stop on the "tour" includes a coloring page. This makes for a great companion to a walk through the historic Dawson Street neighborhood. Stop at the at the History Center and explore the grounds.

You may access the History Center property during the closure but are asked to maintain proper social distance and take precautions.
