El Cajon, Calif. (June 14, 2016) - The second stop of the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL saw the #7 AMSOIL Rusty's Off-Road Walker Evans Racing Cooper Tire KC HiLites, Mastercraft Safety PRO-4 continue its streak of podiums with a third place finish in Round 3 and a victory in Round 4. The Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois tested Douglas Motorsports in every way possible as the team kept their eye on the prize and went home with their best performance of the season.
The specially prepared .75 mile long course built on and inside the Dirt Oval at Route 66 Raceway saw varying surface conditions during the two evening event. Friday's Round 3 saw the track become hard and crusty while Saturday's racing saw the track develop more grip as well as a few ruts in the tightest corners.
Round Three saw Scott Douglas quickly take the lead and hold the spot for several laps. The competition level in 2016 has never been higher as much of the PRO-4 field is capable of winning. As the sixteen lap race headed for the checkered flag, Douglas finished on the podium in third place.
Afterwards Scott Douglas commented, "The truck and the team performed great. We have finished third in all three rounds this year, consistency is great, but we have to win as well to take the Championship."
The next morning the team made a few chassis changes as Douglas realized the track would have more water in it for Saturday's Round 4 main event. As the sun went behind the blue grandstands, the 900 horsepower four-wheel drive trucks lined up for the final race of the weekend.
As expected the track surface gave the
competitors more traction than the night
before, which led to some incredible side-by-side racing. Early on the #7 AMSOIL Rusty's PRO-4 settled in fourth place and as the laps wound down the intensity between the racers definitely continued to rise. The top 4 trucks swapped positions several times as drivers sized each other up. The tight infield corners also developed some small ruts that caused just about every driver to get up on two wheels. In the closing laps Scott Douglas held off a hard charging CJ Greaves to take the victory.
"That was intense," exclaimed Scott Douglas. " Not only were we battling each other, we were battling the track. The tight corners were really tricky. I think every one of us biked it. The ruts in the tight corners were treacherous. Thanks again to all our sponsors for all the support and especially my team. It was brutally hot this weekend and my guys just went about business like it was a cool spring day at the shop."
This was the first win for Scott Douglas since the opening round of racing in 2015. After four rounds of racing, the #7 AMSOIL Rusty's Off-Road Cooper Tire Walker Evans Racing truck is in second place, just six points out the top spot in the PRO-4 Championship standings.
It's a quick turnaround for the team as TORC headed to the Northwoods of Wisconsin for the Big
House Brawl in Crandon, Wisconsin on June 25-26.
Douglas Motorsports also welcomes its latest partner Rugged Radios.
If you can't get to Crandon for the next rounds of racing, the event will be live on the Interne
