Life is a series of wonderful challenges. Some results turn out better than others. This is one of those wonderful results!
The Dresden Baskets quilt started as a Dresden challenge at the Bluffton Scrap Artist Quilt Club. The challenge was to make anything you could think of with a Dresden Plate block. As you can see Ruth's idea was to make the Dresden into the handle of a cute little basket.
She made the model quilt using a stack of 25 reproduction fabric fat quarters, and extra yardage of three additional fabrics. (One for the 1st & 3rd borders and binding, one for the Outer Border, and shirting fabric for the background).
The Dresden is traditionally pieced from a wedge template, which she provides. However, she also provides a "paper piecing"-like templates to ensure the handles that make up the arc uniformly when sewn together.
