CONGRATULATIONS !

  

The Duluth High School Mock Trial Team competed the weekend of January 28 in the Georgia Bar's Regional Mock Trial Competition, held at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville.  The team handled a civil case arising out of a player injury that occurred during a softball game.  The Plaintiff and injured player was portrayed by Victor Rivero, a member of Duluth's Varsity Baseball team, while the Defendant was played by Frances Malayeri.

Aliye Korucu, the team's captain, received a Four year Participant award: one of only four in the Region, as well as a Best Attorney Award.  Cameren Carter received a Best Attorney Award and Anudeepa Ramachandiran received two Best Attorney Awards.  Victor Rivero and Ka'ron Aldrich both received Best Witness Awards. 

After coming in 3 rd last year at Regionals,  the team
made it to the Final Regional Round, came in 2nd, and will be competing in the District Round on February 18.   The Team members are Ka'ron Aldrich, Isabel Arp, Cameren Carter, David Chernyak, Aidan Donelan, Kailah Jeffries, Aliye Korucu, Frances Malayeri, Hannah Pavoor, Ruth Pavoor, Anudeepa Ramachandiran, Victor Rivero, John Charles Roe, Jr., Leah Tomey and Sikirat Tinuola Williams.  
Everyone worked very hard to make this victory possible.
The team is coached by Vermelle Greenwood, Gregg Tavani and two attorney coaches - Jenny E. Jensen, Esq. and Mary Meyers, Esq.  If you are interested in being part of this amazing team next year please reach out to one of our coaches. 

 The team wishes to thank Mama Donna Fox for being a great team Mom, and to all of our parents for taking such good care of us at competition!

National Letter of Intent to accept their football scholarships!

On January 31st, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced the Atlanta All-Metro Midseason Boys' and Girls' Team of 30. The final teams as well as the Metro-Atlanta Boy's and Girl's Player of the Year will be announced at the end of February. 
Our own, Endia Banks was selected as a member of 
the Atlanta Metro-Midseason Girls' Team.

 It was a busy January for a number of cadets!! 
Some of the major events include the following: 

Parkview Invitational Drill Meet: 
Thirty one cadets participated in the drill competition on January 28 at Parkview HS along with five Navy JROTC and three Marine Corps units. Overall scores were dependent on the results of five events. The cadets finished 2 nd in Armed and Unarmed Basic Drill and Color Guard, to finish 4 th overall  - just seven points out of 3 rd place. Great job DHS NJROTC!!

GHSA Area 6 Varsity Air Rifle: 
Last Wednesday, the DHS varsity air rifle team team defeated Lithonia 1067-1049 for its second straight win thanks to team captain, Donny Nguyen's score of 278 (out of 300) and Adam Burton's 274. Samantha Smith (258), Elizabeth Jimenez (257), and Karina Siberon (250) rounded out the scoring. 
Next up is Buford High School, Thursday, February 16 .

"The 25 th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" on Monday, February 6 at  7 pm!

Come celebrate the Region Runner-ups as we send them off to perform at the State Thespian Festival on Thursday for sold-out performances!


THIS MONTH 

In recognition of Black History Month, the Social Studies department has organized several activities, projects and displays throughout the school.  Language Arts lessons are being implemented, video announcements and  music are included in the daily broadcast, and contests are taking place to promote awareness of our school's cultural diversity. 



In addition, the Media Center has prepared special book displays and resource lists for teachers and students.
