May brings with it a sense of renewal. It’s a time to embrace the warmth of the season and a time to celebrate the priceless support of those in the community who uplift us. At EAPO we are here to walk alongside you, to build connections and offer a helping hand whenever needed, to ensure older adults can age with dignity and respect.
This month, we are launching Season 2 of our Podcast, "Aging Vibrantly- Conversations to Empower Seniors", where older adults share personal perspectives on aging that celebrate their strength and wisdom.
This month of May has also brought profound sorrow for the EAPO family. On May 24th, we gathered with family, friends and colleagues in Bobcaygeon, to Celebrate the Life of Adam Jones. Adam was a passionate, respected leader who never sought the spotlight, but always illuminated the path. As Board Chair, he led the organization, with unwavering dedication and resolve. His legacy is one of caring - deep and enduring and by example, he inspired us to lead with integrity and care without limit. His commitment to the protection of human rights of older persons, set an indelible mark. Saturday's memorial service was a moving tribute, filled with tears and laughter, as we reflected and honored a life well lived.
As we move through this season of growth and remembrance, may we draw strength from one another and from the lives that continue to motivate and empower us to do better.
Rest in Peace Adam and be assured, that your genuine warmth and generosity of spirit, will be our compass for the road ahead.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) June 15th
"Be Bold - Age with Attitude"
| |
Officially declared by the UN General Assembly WEAAD June 15th serves as the annual day where the global community comes together to re-commit to understanding, preventing, and responding to the abuse and neglect of older adults. WEAAD began in 2006, through the advocacy efforts of Dr. Elizabeth Podnieks (EAPO’s Founder), the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (INPEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO).
On this day we unite in promoting older adults' rights to live with dignity, security, and to be afforded the respect to continue contributing to their community and the whole of civil society worldwide. In Canada, our network of EA Prevention organizations work tirelessly to provide supports, education, and resources to older adults and their communities. WEAAD is a powerful platform for raising awareness and inspiring actions that create positive outcomes and help change the narrative around positive aging.
Help us empower, educate and inform others about elder abuse prevention!
_____________________________________________________
This year’s 2025 WEAAD theme, "Be Bold - Age with Attitude" celebrates the strength, wisdom, and resilience of older adults while promoting their right to live free from abuse and age discrimination. As we celebrate another milestone year, we are including an educational component, doing our part to create communities where aging is honored and elder abuse is prevented, through raised awareness, understanding, and actions.
