Governor Ivey Signs Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act
Governor Kay Ivey
on Wednesday signed into law SB149, the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Act, authorizing the creation of a broadband accessibility grant program to be administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
The bill, sponsored by Senator Clay Scofield and Representative Donnie Chesteen, also creates the Alabama Broadband Accessibility Fund.
In Alabama, there are more than 842,000 people without access to a wired connection capable of 25mbps download speeds.

Auto parts maker Yorozu opened its $110 million auto parts manufacturing plant in Jasper,
The Tier 1 automotive supplier produces metal stamped suspension components for automakers including Honda, Toyota and Nissan.
Toshiyuki Yago, President of Yorozu Automotive Alabama, said the location just off Interstate 22 in Walker County is well suited for the company because it is surrounded by automakers.

Tim Vines to lead state's largest health insurer
Tim Vines has been elected as the new president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, the insurer announced Wednesday.
According to information released by Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Vines has a 24-year history with the company; past jobs have included president and chief operating officer, chief administrative officer and senior vice president for health management.
He is a native of LaFayette, Ala., a Chambers County city east of Alexander City.
Hyundai plant's future rides on new-look Santa Fe
