Michael J. Fox Awarded The Bob Hope Humanitarian Award

“Tonight we want to single out an individual whose contributions go far beyond his television credits. A man whose deeds and actions has had a lasting impact on society … I can think of no one more deserving of [the award] than Michael,” said Julianna.

Michael was presented with the honor at the 78th Emmy Awards on Monday, becoming only the sixth person to be recognized with the award.Established in 2002, the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award honors individuals whose philanthropic efforts exemplify Bob Hope’s own lifelong commitment to positive social impact. The award is given by the Television Academy and the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation to an individual in the television industry whose humanitarian efforts have brought honor to the industry and whose contributions have made a lasting difference in society. First presented to Oprah Winfrey in 2002, just one year before Hope died at age 100, the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award is among the Television Academy’s rarest honors. Rather than being awarded annually, recipients are chosen only when the Academy determines someone truly merits the distinction. In the 25 years since its inception, the award has been presented just five times.

There is no one more deserving of this award than Michael J. Fox. Michael is one of the kindest, most selfless, and determined individuals I know. His courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment have helped bring us farther in Parkinson’s research than many ever thought possible.

Michael turned his personal journey with Parkinson’s into a global movement. He founded The Michael J. Fox Foundation with a bold vision: to accelerate the development of better treatments and ultimately end Parkinson’s disease. Today, that vision continues to come to life through the extraordinary work of the Foundation, led by Co-Founder Debi Brooks and a team who work tirelessly every day on behalf of the millions of people living with Parkinson’s. And their ultimate goal? To go out of business.

So, what if we could end Parkinson’s? What if we could stop it in its tracks? What if people living with Parkinson’s could wake up one day without symptoms—and without the fear of progression? And what if we could raise $2.5 billion now, rather than 25 years from now, to make that possibility a reality? That is what All Grit. No Quit. campaign is all about. It is about refusing to accept Parkinson’s as inevitable. It is about accelerating research, funding the science, and pushing harder and faster toward a world without Parkinson’s. All Grit. No Quit. Because Parkinson’s doesn’t get the last word.
