Beginning Friday, July 18, through November 2025, Overnight Closures Planned for Three New York-Bound Lanes at the George Washington Bridge
Beginning on Friday, July 18, through November 2025, three New York-bound lanes will be closed during overnights on the upper level of the George Washington Bridge and its approach lanes for bridge joint replacement and repair. One New York-bound lane will remain open on the bridge’s upper level during these overnight closures.
The work is part of the Port Authority’s comprehensive Restoring the George program. The $2 billion, 11-project program aims to repair and rehabilitate the world’s busiest vehicular bridge as it nears its 100th birthday.
New York-bound car and bus drivers are urged to use the lower level of the bridge during closure periods. New York-bound truck drivers should avoid the George Washington Bridge during the closure periods when possible. All New York-bound drivers should expect delays during these overnight closures and use caution when traveling through the area.
New York-bound upper level closures:
- On Mondays through Thursdays, from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, three lanes on the eastbound upper level will be closed.
- On Fridays and Saturdays, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning, three lanes on the eastbound upper level will be closed.
New York-bound bridge approach closures:
- The ramp from the Southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway to the eastbound upper level will be closed:
- Mondays through Thursdays, from 9 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning.
- 10 p.m. Fridays to 8 a.m. Saturdays.
- Traffic on the southbound Palisades Interstate Parkway will be detoured to Fletcher Avenue. Car and bus drivers should use Kelby Street to access eastbound lanes on the lower level.
- One lane on the Interstate 95 approach to eastbound lanes on the upper level, from the Fletcher Avenue overpass to the main span of the bridge, will be closed:
- Mondays through Thursdays, from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning.
- Fridays and Saturdays, from 11 p.m. each night to 8 a.m. the following morning.
- The right lane on the ramp from Bruce Reynolds Boulevard/Park Avenue to eastbound lanes on the upper level will be closed:
- Mondays through Thursdays, from 10 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning.
