Summer Plans....what are yours?
Here we are at the beginning of summer and our communities are slowly reopening and we are beginning to gather. I say this with some apprehension and trepidation as Covid-19 cases continue to rise in several states including Texas where I live. I pray for an end to this current situation and for life to return to pre-Covid times. I am busy planning travel for myself and many of you in 2021 and beyond and I am confident that those trips will come to fruition. I truly believe that cruise ships and other modes of travel will be very safe once reinstated. I cannot wait to "Get Out of Town"! For those of you planning to travel this summer, I believe many are taking road trips and staying relatively close to home. For the time being, I'll be staying put until my son says we can drive down to Austin to visit the grandkids. Hope that happens soon!
Wherever you go, near or far, please wear a mask. It's the right thing to do.

JUST ANNOUNCED JUNE 19, 2020
Cruise Ships Won't Sail from U.S. Ports Until Sept. 15
June 19, 2020
A Friday afternoon statement from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) said its cruise members will "voluntarily extend the suspension of cruise operations from U.S. ports until September 15 2020."
“Due to the ongoing situation within the U.S. related to COVID-19, CLIA member cruise lines have decided to voluntarily extend the period of suspended passenger operations. The current No Sail Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will expire on July 24, and although we had hoped that cruise activity could resume as soon as possible after that date, it is increasingly clear that more time will be needed to resolve barriers to resumption in the United States," the group said.
“Although we are confident that future cruises will be healthy and safe, and will fully reflect the latest protective measures, we also feel that it is appropriate to err on the side of caution to help ensure the best interests of our passengers and crewmembers. We have therefore decided to further extend our suspension of operations from U.S. ports until 15 September. The additional time will also allow us to consult with the CDC on measures that will be appropriate for the eventual resumption of cruise operations.
“This voluntary suspension applies to all CLIA members to which the No Sail Order applied (vessels with capacity to carry 250 persons or more). CLIA member cruise lines will continually evaluate the evolving situation and make a determination as to whether a further extension is necessary.”

UNCLAIMED LOST LUGGAGE
Do you ever wonder what happens to it?
Every day I receive a travel tip in my inbox from
Johnny Jet. This one came today and I thought you would enjoy reading it as much as I did. As a thanks to Johnny, please sign up for his tips and follow him on social media which is listed at the end of the article.
Each Friday, we feature a reader-inspired tip as our Travel Tip of the Day. This Friday (which is
Juneteenth
) with the pandemic still wreaking havoc, I thought I'd share a cool piece of news for all the travel-lovers stuck at home.
Unclaimed Baggage
, the "country's only merchant of unclaimed and lost airline baggage and its contents," has made its thousands and thousands of treasures
available online
. unclaimedbaggage.com
Prior to this week, you had to travel to Unclaimed Baggage's 50,000-square-foot facility in Scottsboro, Alabama, to peruse and buy items from its unique inventory. If you're wondering, it works like this: If a bag is lost by an airline, the airline generally tries to return the bag to its owner for three months. After that, its owner is compensated and the bag and its contents make their way to Unclaimed Baggage, which puts them up for sale. According to Unclaimed Baggage, only about 0.03% of all passenger bags meet this fate.
I almost visited the Scottsboro store a couple of years again when I was in Alabama for a TBEX conference (Unclaimed Baggage even
wrote about me on its website!
). It was over an hour away from where I was in Alabama as it’s in the boondocks, so I didn't make it. Well, thanks to COVID-19 the company has had to pivot by putting the contents of unclaimed luggage online. The deals I've seen so far aren’t that great, but who knows? You might find something that once belonged to you!
