Principal's News
by Sharon Havard

Good morning, Wildcats!  We hope you had an awesome LONG weekend!  It is nice having an extra day to sleep in.  I'm sure most of us needed a little extra rest.

We love our teachers and staff and the appreciations coming in from families have been great to hear!  Thanks to all for boosting our spirits, especially as we work through the challenges of 2020.  The 2nd nine weeks will officially begin on Oct. 19, so all our virtual students who are coming back to in-person learning, will be here on campus that Monday!  We are excited to see you face to face.

SAFETY CONCERN:  As you aware of, we have not started Safety Patrol, dueto health and safety concerns which means that we are limited in the support that we can give during arrival and dismissal.  Safety is so important to us and we don't want anyone to get hurt so we are asking for everyone to PLEASE not pass cars in the carpool lane, especially during the morning.  This is a huge safety hazard for students so your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated. During dismissal, we have a crossing guard that will help direct you when it is safe to pass through the lane to exit.  Always remember the speed limit!  No one should be driving fast through the carpool lane.

Let's make this short week a great one!

Ms. Havard

Claim Your Guardian SSO Account!
by Jan Peaden, Registor

In order to view report cards online next month, all guardians must have "claimed" their guardian SSO account by October 16.  If yo u have not "claimed" this account, your HAC login will not work and you will not be able to access report cards.  Please follow the instructions below.
McKinney ISD upgraded its parent account system over the summer break to use the same SSO system that students have been using for over a year. As part of that process you will need to "claim" your account in the new system. Your username will remain the same, but you will need to set a new password as part of this process. In order to continue utilizing Home Access Center, you will need to claim your new SSO account by
October 16
The claim process can be started at https://sso.mckinneyisd.net by clicking on the "Claim My Account" button.
You will need the following information to claim your new account:
1)     First name EXACTLY as we have it entered on your guardian record in Home Access Center
2)     Last name EXACTLY as we have it entered on your guardian record in Home Access Center
3)     Your Email address (the one you listed on your student's registration)
4)     The student ID # of your student- 6 digit numeric only and no letters (if you have multiple students in MISD any one of them will work--Please be sure to remove the leading s)
If you receive the error The Claim My Account operation failed, please confirm with Jan Peaden, (469) 302-6608 or [email protected] on the exact listing of your name in our student system.
After you have successfully entered all 4 pieces of information and been verified you will then complete the following steps:
1)     Set your new password
2)         Select and answer a minimum of 3 challenge questions. These are the questions that will be used if you ever use the new forgot password function.
Support Eddins While Shopping Amazon!
by Trisha Hudson
Amazon Prime Days are THIS WEEK, October 13th and 14th! While you are getting a head start on holiday shopping, give back to Eddins Elementary by utilizing AmazonSmile. Follow the simple steps below to get started.
Shop for your family and earn money for Eddins! Shopping programs raise money and don't cost our families any additional money. Simply link your accounts to Eddins and portions of your purchase will be donated back to our school from the merchants. Whether you're shopping for gifts or shopping for groceries, you're helping to enhance the learning experience for all of our Wildcats!

What is AmazonSmile?
AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices, and convenient shopping features as on Amazon.com. The difference is that when customers shop on AmazonSmile (smile.amazon.com), the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases to the charitable organizations selected by customers.
How do I shop at AmazonSmile and select Eddins?
To start shopping at AmazonSmile and earning cash for Eddins, simply visit https://smile.amazon.com/ch/75-2766297 from the web browser on your computer or mobile device and sign in with your standard Amazon account information. This will select Eddins Elementary PTA
(listed as PTA Texas Congress 6632 Eddins Elementary PTA) as the charitable organization you wish to receive donations from your eligible purchases. AmazonSmile will remember your selection, and then every eligible purchase you make at
smile.amazon.com will result in a donation to Eddins. You may also want to add a bookmark to make it even easier to return again!
All your account settings will remain the same.
Thank you for your continued support of Eddins Elementary! The money earned from these shopping programs help pay for I-Stations, Field Day, Assemblies, Grade Level Grants, End Of Year Parties, Playground Transformation Project, etc.
Save the Date!

HAC Assurance Fees
by Taylor Fortner

We hope you are enjoying your MISD issued laptop for 4th and 5th graders.  As part of this initiative, each student will have a fee associated with their HAC account according to their lunch status ($30 or $15 for free/reduced lunch).  Parents can pay these fees through HAC using a credit/debit card or you may pay in person with check/cash/ or money order.  The annual fee will cover the first incident of damage to the laptop 100% with all other incidents of damage being covered at $125 each.  The incident timeline will reset when a new laptop is issued.
All of this information is detailed in the 1:The World Handbook (https://tinyurl.com/y4qb92kx) and includes a sample price list of the cost to replace frequently damaged parts should the fee not be paid.  McKinney Vento students will not be included in the fee plan.  These fees must be paid by Dec. 17th.  You may make payments until the full fee is paid.  After this date, any student with an outstanding assurance fee will have their laptop restricted to a whitelist of academic resources only.  These students will not have access to anything other than the 59 listed applications necessary to "do school".  This restriction will be in place until the fee is paid or removed in HAC.  Please be sure when going to make payment in HAC that your pop-up blocker is turned off so you can add your payment information. Here is a link to a document showing you how to make your HAC payments.

Tips:
Over the past 7 years, the majority of laptops having damage were caused by liquid damage from laptops being near lunch or water bottles in backpacks.

Your child may personalize their MacBook with covers, keyboard covers, or school appropriate stickers.  It is also a good idea to mark their chargers as they might get easily mixed up while using at school.

If you have any questions, you can call or email Mrs. Fortner at [email protected] or 469-302-6679

Volunteer with the PTA
by Micah Bolton

You can make an exceptional difference at Eddins!  Volunteers are always needed at both the classroom and school-wide levels and we have several areas that can use your help. There are opportunities for everyone to contribute - we have many working parent volunteers and volunteers with younger children too (due to Covid, younger siblings are not allowed on campus, but we hope this is lifted very soon!) Many of these opportunities require very little time.

Please see the Volunteer opportunities here or contact Micah Bolton at [email protected] for more information. Thank you in advance for the time, talent, and donations you volunteer to support all of the students and staff at Eddins this year!

Please make sure that you complete your 2020-2021 MISD Volunteer Background Check so you are able to volunteer and be part of school activities on campus. A new application is required every school year.
