Landfill Gas Improvement Project

Way to go, Solid Waste Techs! Thanks to their expertise, this project was conducted to better manage and capture the methane and other greenhouse gases generated in the landfill by organic materials in the garbage. The intricate project to upgrade the old gas pipes at Johnson Canyon Landfill was all conducted in-house by our Solid Waste Technicians.

Doing the work in-house versus contracting out the project saved time, gave the agency the flexibility to start/stop the project as needed, and had substantial project cost savings.

Another great example of our team protecting the environment and community from greenhouse gas emissions!

Let's Talk Trashion Show!

The Resource Recovery team pulled it off once again for the 2025 Trashion Show in King City, an event that benefits the Alliance on Aging's fundraiser! We were invited to create a fashion design, using upcycled materials, to the theme of "Once Upon a Time".

Resource Recovery Technician Julia Brooker models the final look of Redusa The Recycling Fairy, reminding the audience to wish upon a star but not to wish-cycle trash into the recycling cart.

Redusa's outfit was inspired by the Sesame Street character of the same name, and is made out of reused bubble wrap, newspaper, colorful straws, fabric scraps, and compostable bags.

Shout out to the designers in the Resource Recovery department - Estela Guerrero, Elia Zavala, Guille Gutierrez, and Sara Papineau-Brandt!

Our Pollinator Garden is Growing!

With our invaluable partnership with RCDMC, we are grateful to have a flourishing pollinator garden - and another on the way!

These native plants bolster a healthy environment for pollinators such as bees and butterflies, while also creating an enjoyable sensory garden for guests. Of course, we used recycled organics to help get the job done, and never use toxic pesticides or herbicides.

Our latest tours have had the opportunity to explore the gardens and learn about the natural cycle of plants and their symbiotic relationship with pollinators.

We're available to book your group tour, where you'll learn more about pollinators, landfill operations, recycling, and a chance to see the vision for a future without landfills. Learn more by clicking below!
