SECRET TALENT:
Seems like a lifetime ago but, but when I was in my late teens into my early 20’s, I used to move out to Colorado for the summers and work on a ranch and lived like a “Western Cowboy” much like what you see on the “Yellowstone” series, without all the drama of course (well, maybe a little…) My time there included an average of 18-hour days of feeding horses and livestock, breaking horses, roping and branding calves, field work, monitoring natural irrigation systems and twice a summer, I was part of 5-6 day, 50 mile cattle drive from Eagle, Co to almost Leadville, Co. and back again. A novice “ranch hand” at best, but an experience I wouldn’t trade for anything. I drove cattle past John Denver’s home and even met Bill Gates and had to fix his fence from damage due to the elk migrations after the cattle drive.
CLAIM TO FAME:
I studied Civil Engineering with an emphasis on Structural design in college. Although I started my professional career in residential structural engineering in 1998 in the Vail Valley of Colorado, I then shifted my focus as an Architectural Project Manager in Colorado’s Aspen valley until 2009. I then moved my family to Wisconsin (back to my home roots) and owned a residential company for 9 years and decided that Commercial construction is where I belong. With all of the disciplines that I was able to learn and teach, I feel my collective experiences let me confidently sit on all sides of the table and made me realize all of the responsibility, hard work, effort and collaboration that every team member contributes to every client on any given project. For that direct experience gives me the confidence to intelligently provide a multi-disciplined approach with leadership capabilities to guide my clients through this process from every aspect and create a win/win situation for everyone involved.
RANDOM CONSTRUCTION FACTOID:
“Necessity is the mother of all invention”. From fire to skyscrapers, I tend to relish some of the ancient, original methods since they were created based on need without any known process or procedure. One of the most adopted practices in modern construction was originated over 1,500 years ago in Athens, Greece by the Romans. The Romans had created and eventually perfected the process and procedure of implementing structural and non-structural pre-cast concrete into production and implementation in the Coliseum and then all of Rome and eventually spread to the entire globe. The iconic Parthenon was one of the first successful structures to use this process and still stands today despite 1,500 years of “wear and tear”. This process has been adopted and implemented by countless professionals, suppliers and builders ever since. In essence, we still use a technology that was engineered over 1,500 years ago by people due to necessity with their own will and without calculators. That’s pretty amazing in my book.
CONTEMPLATIVE THOUGHT OF THE DAY:
I feel like I’ve heard several versions of these, but none of these are verbatim and this is my take on what “speaks to me”:
Yesterday is gone, today is an opportunity, tomorrow is a gift.
Use your time wisely and invest in those you value among all.
Teach those who are willing, learn from those who suffered, share the knowledge so that all may succeed.
