When you come to celebrate Art with a Heart's 20th Anniversary on March 1st, shop some new and classic HeARTwares products. Students, interns, and volunteers have created beautiful polymer clay earrings, ceramic wine stoppers, coiled paper hearts, and the ever popular row-home succulent planters. There's something for everyone!

ART OF LEADERSHIP 
Testing Accountability and Integrity as a Leadership Competency  AOLSession

This month, Art of Leadership students got a behind-the-scenes tour of the Baltimore Police Department Headquarters. Students explored the communications department, the police museum, and heard presentations from SWAT, Motors, and the Crime Lab. The leaders discussed how the relationship between the community and the police can be improved with a focus on accountability and integrity.

PROGRAMMING
Creatively Learning about the Courage to be HopefulMaryERodman

Students in Art with a Heart classes at Mary E. Rodman Elementary School  in grades K-2nd were introduced to 
l awyer and social justice activist,    Bryan Stevenson and were inspired by his quote, "It takes courage to be hopeful."  Student artists then used oil pastels to create  positive word Pop Art posters inspired  by artist, Romero Britto's bold and colorful patterns.  

Sharing the LoveBAS

In February, s tudents from the  Baltimore Autism Society were ready for Valentine's Day with inspiration from Jim Dine. S tudents played with multiple colors and patterns and explored the use of repetitive common objects in their pop art.
 
5th Graders Leave a Legacy of Hope, Peace and DiversityChevyChase

5th grade students at North Chevy Chase Elementary School participated in Art with a Heart's annual legacy project to promote environmental stewardship and to commemorate their time spent at the school. Inspired by the themes of hope, peace and diversity, students thoughtfully problem solved ways to recreate their two dimensional designs on a three dimensional, up-cycled hubcap. Completed hubcaps will be added to the growing abstract flower garden installed in the school's outdoor classroom.
Student Artists Exhibit Their Work at Harford Heights Showcase!HarfordHeights

Students, staff and parents celebrated Art Night at Harford Heights Elementary/Middle School. Art with a Heart teachers organized an engaging student art gallery to showcase the talent and commitment of their student artists.  Every student in the school had at least one piece of art work on display. Students were beaming with pride and excitement as the community spent the night celebrating the visual arts!  
COMMUNITY SERVICE AND PUBLIC ART
Heat It to Beat It Inspires Hope and Creativityheat

This ceramic tile mosaic was recently installed in the waiting room of the  Institute of Cancer Care at Mercy Medical Center. The project was launched in September 2019 at the 10th Anniversary of the Heat It to Beat It walk.  S urgical oncology staff along with 600 survivors and their family members helped to create over 800 hand stamped tiles to form this meaningful piece.

 total of 316  individual volunteers  assisted t he programming team prepare for classes and advance Art with a Heart's ongoing  public art projects. We could not do the work we do without the support of all of our volunteers. 
THE IMPRESSIONISTS: CREATIVE SOCIAL ACTIVISM
Yarn + Community = WarmthImpressionists

On Tuesday, February 18th, Art with a Heart's junior board, The Impressionists, hosted a fun and inventive crochet night. Participants enjoyed refreshments and a signature cocktail, The Twisted Stitcher, while learning to finger crochet. A very special thank you to facilitator and Impressionists, Rebecca Wilen. Rebecca led attendees in the creation of hats and scarves that will be donated to Youth Empowered Society, an Art with a Heart job program partner.
