"Everything is hard

before it is easy."

-Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Parallel Parking. Sourdough starter. Engine Repair. Being Organized.

Each of these things at some point to some person sounded hard. And then they did it. They made the brave decision to just do it. And each time they did it, it probably got easier. Or they bought a car that could parallel park for them. Ha!

No matter what hurdle stands before you, let this be your reminder to do hard things. Do hard things until they are no longer hard. Do the hard things because that is where you will find value and purpose and growth.

Google has put together a great checklist on tackling the things that we call hard...

To improve at doing hard things, break them into smaller, manageable steps, build a routine for consistent effort, and find your "why" to connect your goals to a deeper purpose. Embrace discomfort, visualize success, and practice mindfulness to stay motivated.

Breaking Down Tasks:

  • Large, daunting tasks can be overwhelming. Breaking them into smaller, more manageable steps makes them less intimidating and allows for a sense of accomplishment with each completed step.

Building a Routine:

  • Establish a daily or weekly routine where you dedicate time to challenging tasks, even if it's just for a short period.
  • Consistency in practice helps turn these tasks into habits, making it easier to push through challenges.

Finding Your "Why":

  • Connecting your goals to a deeper purpose or meaning can provide a strong source of motivation.
  • When you understand the "why" behind your efforts, it becomes easier to persevere through difficult moments.

Embracing Discomfort:

  • Growth happens outside of your comfort zone. View challenges as opportunities for growth rather than obstacles to avoid.
  • The more you expose yourself to discomfort, the more resilient you become.

Visualizing Success:

  • Before tackling a difficult task, visualize the positive outcomes and benefits of completing it. This can help build confidence and maintain a positive mindset.

Mindfulness and Self-Compassion:

  • Pay attention to your internal dialogue and be kind to yourself.
  • Avoid negative self-talk and focus on your strengths and past successes

I will not wish you luck, for it is not luck that will be of aide. It will be you. Your grit. Your determination. And most importantly, your choice.
