How Long Will Your Retirement Money Last?

I retired from the NYPD in 1991. Thirty-one years later the cost of living had gone up 118% and during that same time the cost of living adjustment in my pension had gone up only 12%.

That is a 106 percent difference. That means my pension, even with the COLA, purchases only 48% of what it originally did in 1991.

Do yourself a favor and explore the wonderful homes for sale here and save on purchase, property taxes, cost of living and no state income tax. Put the money you save in the bank for your future.

Look what happens when you adjust Average Salary for a city’s Cost of Living Index. This tells you more about the quality of life for an average worker in each city, for example an average worker in Nashville has 60% more spending power than his counterpart in NYC, and there is no State or City income tax in Nashville, which means even more money available.
