Rochioli is a small, family owned winery situated in a very diverse part of the Russian River Valley. Joe Jr. and Tom Rochioli (2nd and 3rd generation winemakers and farmers for their beautiful property) both believe key factors in growing superb grapes come from the diversity in the soil types, the vineyards' proximity to the ocean, as well as the contours of the valley, allowing for morning fog and cool evening breezes. Because of the diverse terroir across their 140 acres in production, Tom ferments each block separately. While this is a common practice in Burgundy, Rochioli was one of the first in the area to introduce a micro-batch process. He believes in being able to taste unique differences between the diverse soil and clonal diversity that typifies the Russian River estate.

Here's what Robert Parker had to say about this winery:

"Quiet and assured, Tom Rochioli continues to produce spectacular wines from the family's 100 acres of vineyards in the heart of the Russian River Valley on both sides of Westside Road south of Healdsburg. The two most commonly encountered cuvées are the Russian River Estate Chardonnay and Russian River Estate Pinot Noir... The estate Pinot Noir sees about 50% new oak and is one of the bigger production cuvées in the Rochioli portfolio of nearly 3,200 cases. His Pinot Noirs usually see 4-5 days of pre-fermentation cold maceration, and are made from relatively small yields of tiny berries, hence they have great color and wonderful fruit. They are certainly among my favorite Pinot Noirs from the Russian River Valley."
2021 Rochioli Estate Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Rich and succulent but also extremely elegant, with perfectly ripe nectarine and peach flavors and notes of melon at the core, plus details of lemongrass, dried ginger and a touch of sea salt. This has plump roundness, which is offset by vibrant, crisp acidity. Drink now. 560 cases made." -MaryAnn Worobiec (2/28/23)

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"A perennial powerhouse of a wine, from the great Westside Road estate, this white opens in petrol, dried herb and white pepper. Dense layers of Gravenstein apple, pear and peach candy combine to provide complexity and enduring richness that finishes fresh and focused." VIRGINIE BOONE

Winery Notes:
Fifty nine percent is from the original Sauvignon Blanc vineyard planted in 1959, twenty five percent is from our newest planting (2001) of a very special and rare clone, and sixteen percent is from our 31-year-old hillside vineyard.

This wine is tank fermented at a cool temperature to preserve its intense varietal character and firm acidity. With aromas of passion fruit, melon, and citrus tones this is a light and sophisticated Sauvignon Blanc.

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This beautifully crafted wine expertly reflects the site, a luxurious and yet balanced and layered experience of purity and focus. Acidity threads throughout, helping lift strong flavors of stone fruit and Gravenstein apple, punctuated in baking spice and toasted oak." -VIRGINIE BOONE (11/22)

92 Points - Robert Parker's WA:
"The 2020 Chardonnay Estate is scented of quince and golden apples with nuances of beeswax and dried chamomile. The medium-bodied palate is concentrated and creamy, with savory fruits and a long, honeyed finish. Around 1,700 cases were produced." -EB (7/22)
