Fernando Alegría, a professor of Spanish and Portuguese for more than two decades at Stanford University, was an internationally renowned Chilean poet, novelist and literary critic.
The Stanford University library is creating an online exhibit to showcase materials from the more than 100 boxes of Fernando Alegría's literary archive, which includes personal letters with 1971 Nobel laureate Pablo Neruda and 1945 Nobel laureate Gabriela Mistral.

Coach Pedro Ordenes, Chilean, is the founder of
Water World Swim
in San Francisco, CA. He is known worldwide for his record-breaking swims. Pedro Ordenes holds the world record for Alcatraz swim crossings - over 900. He is also the only person to complete a round trip crossing of the Beagle Channel between Chile and Argentina, in water temperatures averaging 39F and without a wet suit. In 1999, Pedro swam across the Strait of Magellan in 39.7F waters just to celebrate the new millennium!
