Dear Catechetical Colleagues,
We are getting very close to the Cornerstone Conference, October 20-21, at the Tacoma Convention Center. If you haven't already registered, now is the time and here is the link to do so! Our Washington State Bishops will all be presenting as well as Bishop Robert Barron, Dr. Helen Alvaré, and Dr. Ralph McCloud.
We continue to add more parish and regional events to our activity calendar. In particular, please check out the new offerings at St. Madeleine Sophie with Jack Jezreel and the Ignatian Spirituality Center. Remember to take a look at Dr. Sarah Bartel's webinars. Contact her by email to sign up for upcoming classes.
Did you know that the Vatican is planning a synod on youth and young adults? The Archdiocese of Seattle is requesting us to have our young people participate in a planning survey. Please share this important information with your youth ministers, families with teens, and parish staff.
With our Religion Standards, we continue with Task One: Knowledge of the Faith with the highlighted "Essential Concept" of Salvation History. Remember to check the Essential Concept section for some videos and helpful links.
We hope you are sharing this newsletter with your Spanish faith formation staff and volunteers. Carlos Carrillo's Spanish Faith Formation section includes a list of upcoming classes and lots of helpful information. He is also searching for people interested in participating in a pilot program to update catechist certification.
Please let us know if we can assist you in any way with your catechetical programs. You and those you serve remain in our prayers!

Essential Religious Education Concepts
|
Salvation History-
[50-73]
The Essential Concepts come from the Table of Contents for the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC). They have been re-organized to fit under the Six Tasks of Catechesis. CCC articles numbers associated with each Essential Concept are listed throughout this document. Referencing CCC article numbers is a recommended resource for catechist preparation.
TASK 1 - KNOWLEDGE OF THE FAITH
- Students explore, profess, and reflect on our Catholic faith, which is the content of God's revelation found in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition and lived out in the Creed and Church doctrine.
Implementation Ideas for the Classroom:
*Please note the Library's Essential Concepts list is a working document, being updated on an ongoing basis.
Online Resources-Links and Videos
Every catechist should be able to tell the timeline of Salvation history, because it is so important to understanding Jesus, the Bible, and Catholic doctrine. Salvation history is the story of our faith. Familiarity with important characters from this story helps us form a foundation of our belief in Christ. Jesus associated himself with major figures from the Old Testament such as Moses, Elijah, and others. So did his first followers. The Church continues to do so today.
