Town Supervisor
Chris Legg
As we shift from summer operations to fall operations, some departments are storing items and preparing for the pending winter weather. Most significantly, the Parks and Highway Departments are the busiest with the change of seasons. The Town Hall staff see heavy traffic for hunting/fishing and dog licenses, notary services, building permits/project proposals, and court fees/fines.
The private-public funded pickleball project is nearing completion. All construction costs are paid by $338,000 in private donations and a NYS Community $200,000 grant secured by NYS Senator Rachel May. Final acceptance of the Miron Family Pickleball Courts is expected in early October. Public play can begin upon contract final acceptance. Residents are requested to stay off the site until it is open for public play. The tennis and pickleball court nets and windscreens will be removed for the winter about October 15th and restored in the spring for play. To protect the surface of all the courts, bicycles, skateboards, roller skates/blades, or motorized vehicles are prohibited on the courts.

Skaneateles Water Tower & Waterline Project Update
Miranda Robinson, Staff Engineer
The Town of Skaneateles Water Department is pleased to share continued progress on the Andrews Road Water Improvement Project, one of the most significant infrastructure investments in our community's history.
A major milestone was reached last week with the successful installation of the foundation for the new water tower. Construction of the tower's pedestal is expected to begin shortly and will mark the next visible phase of this transformative project.
Progress has also continued along the waterline route. Approximately 2.5 miles of the project's 3.5 miles of water main have now been installed. In the coming weeks, portions of the new system will begin to be placed into service, bringing a long-awaited reliable water supply to residents who have experienced dry wells and water shortages for decades.
Construction crews will continue working throughout the autumn season, with work progressing as long as weather conditions allow. Our goal is to complete as much of the project as possible before winter operations require a temporary shutdown.
This project represents a substantial investment in the future of our community, improving reliability, public health, fire protection, and long-term resiliency for residents in the Andrews Road area. The Water Department appreciates the patience, cooperation, and support shown by affected property owners and the broader community throughout construction.

News from the
Parks Department
Sue Murphy
2026 - What a summer! Hot! Fun! Fast! And Lots of Activity!
Austin Park, Waterfront at Clift Park, the Charlie Major Nature Trail, and The Conservation Area were very busy. The parks employees worked so hard to make sure the community could use the swimming area, farmers market, ballfields, and parking lot in Mandana.
|
|
| | First, we need to send a Big THANK YOU! for your patience during the construction of the pickleball courts. We know, for many, your walk around the park was disrupted, noisy & just plain annoying. Next spring your walk will be restored. We continually appreciate your patience & cooperation when updating and improving your park. | | | |
Moving forward - Reminders & Updates!
- When walking out at the Conservation Areas, please wear bright colored clothing. It is hunting season, and the more we make ourselves visible the safer we are.
- Fall maintenance has begun. We will be on the walking path so please watch out for us when walking around the park. We don’t want to be in your way just as much as we know you don’t want to be in ours.
- Driving around the Austin Park path is prohibited. Only service or emergency vehicles are permitted.
- No riding bikes on baseball/softball fields, tennis & basketball courts. If using an electric bike around the walking path, please be courteous and slow down or walk the bike.
- Snow fences and reflector poles will be put out shortly. Please leave them where they are. Even though the staff knows this path by heart, in the wintertime it’s a bit challenging, and having them in place helps with spring maintenance.
- Please continue to pick up after your pet. Mutt Mitt stations are available along the walking path.

SAVES
Jerry Schinaman
In the first 9 months of 2026, SAVES has responded to 831 calls. Responses in the Village and Town of Skaneateles represented 65% of those calls.
We are currently holding our annual fund-raising campaign. Your support and contributions will enable us to fund our daily operations, purchase new equipment and provide training to the community. Visit the SAVES website online for more information.
Dial 9-1-1 in an emergency. Although we have crews on-duty 24 hours a day, the large volume of calls and time spent in ER’s mean they may not be available if you call SAVES. If help is needed calling 9-1-1 is the only way to ensure a rapid response. We also recommend preparing lists of medications for family members which can be accessed by first responders in an emergency.
SAVES continues to offer instructions regarding CPR and AED use. The CPR classes include techniques for handling choking emergencies. First Aid classes are offered as needed. During First Aid classes techniques for controlling traumatic bleeding are included. SAVES personnel have taught 5 First Aid and 10 CPR classes this year for 75 students. Call SAVES, 315 685-5217 for more information. Many local businesses also provide classes for their employees.
We are always looking for volunteer members. If you may be interested in volunteering, or you are not sure, stop in and see us. Personnel are always willing to provide a tour of our facilities and discuss volunteering opportunities.
Enjoy the fall.

Seniors of Skaneateles
Rememberance Quilt
The Seniors of Skaneateles officially unveiled and presented a hand-crafted 250th commemorative quilt to the Town of Skaneateles at the Town Hall meeting 6:30pm on Monday, June 15, 2026.
This beautiful and heartfelt quilt celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States, honoring the profound sacrifices of those who built and defended our nation and our shared patriotic pride.
"Stitched with pride and gratitude, our Remembrance Quilt represents a labor of love and a bridge between our nation's history and our local heritage," said Jean Clayborn, President of Seniors of Skaneateles. "Donna Powers & Noel Jeitler have poured their time, memories, and incredible talent into a quilt that our community can cherish for generations to come."
The historic quilt will make its official public debut on July 2 at the Skaneateles Community Center open house, followed by a featured display at the Skaneateles Historical Society. The historic quilt will rotate around town at key community locations throughout the remainder of 2026, allowing all residents and visitors to view the artwork up close. A permanent display location will be determined at a later date.
“The Town of Skaneateles and the 250th Committee are so grateful to the Seniors of Skaneateles for creating this one-of-a-kind keepsake on this momentous occasion in our nation’s history. Your group is truly a gem in our community.” said Sue Dove, 250th Committee Co-Chair.
For more information, please contact Jean Clayborn, President at (407) 383-0107 or SeniorsOfSkan@gmail.com or find us on our Facebook page.
