This Sunday at St. Columba's ... we will hear the faith story of parishioner Chip Somodevilla. Each of us has a unique faith journey. We each struggle with what it means to follow Christ; we each live out our faith in different ways, some very public and some private. Faith Stories are a way to share our journey with fellow parishioners, to hear different faith journeys and to get to know each other better.

In the Way of Love, faith stories fall within the practice of “Turn,” when we pause, listen, and choose to follow Jesus. Bishop Curry shares, “Like the disciples, we are called by Jesus to follow the Way of Love. With God’s help, we can turn from the powers of sin, hatred, fear, injustice, and oppression toward the way of truth, love, hope, justice, and freedom. In turning, we reorient our lives to Jesus Christ, falling in love again, again, and again.”

A Message from Katie McGervey
Interim Director of Children's Ministries
Fellow St. Columbans, we need Sunday School teachers for the upcoming program year. You don’t have children in Sunday School? You’re an excellent candidate to teach then! The kids love to get to know parishioners who aren’t their parents and it’s a fun way for you to connect with the children. Several folks who don’t have kids have been teaching during the same time period each year with the same group of kids as they grow up! Do you have kids in the youth program now? You could teach Sunday School while someone else teaches your youth! Children are at the heart of St. Columba’s community and everyone has a role in bringing them up in Christ and the Church.

What’s involved?  You make a commitment to attend Sunday School each week for 7-8 weeks. Most of those weeks you will support the lead teacher - they will ask you to help with specific parts of the lesson. You may be the lead teacher for 1-2 of those weeks where you plan the lesson. There is an excellent curriculum with a plan for each week and I have lots of ideas and resources to help you.

Please sign up in the Common or send me an email to let me know you’d like to teach. Thank you!
"Live God's Love"
With this new mission statement, St. Columba’s recommits itself as “a welcoming Christian community of all ages that encourages spiritual curiosity, celebrates children and youth, and embraces the world in the spirit of God’s justice and love.” St. Columba's will embrace Presiding Bishop Michael Curry's "Way of Love" to live into this vision. More than a program or curriculum, it is an intentional commitment to a set of practices to follow Jesus: Turn, Learn, Pray, Worship, Bless, Go, Rest. Learn more at

Robert (Bob) Stillman

A funeral will be held at St. Columba’s on Fri., Sept. 6, 2019 at 11 am.
