Greetings!

Summer's here, but the League isn't resting on its laurels:

Saturday will be a National Day of Action as communities around the country rally to amplify the message that Families Belong Together. The Greenfield rally will be held from 1:00-2:30pm on the Town Common. Come wearing your League t-shirts and buttons, and join us in supporting an end to immigration criminalization, detention, and deportations in our communities. Click reply to let us know you'll be there!

We're planning to march again in Shelburne's Fourth of July parade next Wednesday. We'll meet at 10:30am on July 4 in front of Lamson & Goodnow, 45 Conway St. in Buckland. The parade ends at the Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School, where the Boy Scouts will hold their annual chicken bbq; we'll have a table there for voter registration and other assorted goodies, including LWV temporary tattoos and copies of the U.S. Constitution. Click reply to say you'll march too!

Our League solicited a series of guest editorials from local educators, historians, and writers on civics topics for the Recorder. The series, which began on Monday, will run between now and July 4. We hope you'll read and spread the word! Yesterday 's installment by Roxann Wedegartner deals with the history of employment discrimination via the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments, which govern due process and equal protection of our “life, liberty and property.” Today 's by Ken Bertsch covers the history of securities law. Gratitude again to member Pat Leuchtman, who spearheaded this effort!

The LWVFC team won first place at Wednesday's Trivia Night at Lefty's! Stay tuned to join us next time. And if you're interested in setting up a social meet-up in your town, let us know !

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

The Massachusetts House passed the Automatic Voter Registration bill 130-20! AVR now goes to the Senate for action. Please take a moment to thank your State Representative and urge your State Senator to vote for the bill when it reaches the floor.

The Voter Services Committee Meeting will be held July 10 at 6:00pm at 170 Main St in Greenfield. Many hands make light work, so we hope you'll join us.

The LWVFC will be co-sponsoring or participating in five different candidate events this summer. Keep an eye out for the full list of dates next week; we'll be seeking volunteers.

Most of the forums will be held in August, but there is one in July. The League is not a co-sponsor, merely providing timekeepers. However, it's an important topic, and we encourage you to attend:
