Yes, we went to another conference. Yes, we had a great time celebrating Wisconsin tourism. Yes, I am going to tell you all about it.
WIGCOT (Wisconsin Governor's Conference on Tourism) gathers over 700 men and women to celebrate the travel industry in our beautiful state and highlight all the hard work that Travel Wisconsin, regional tourism centers and every public facing business do each day to ensure that guests from near and far chose Wisconsin as their preferred destination.
Did we talk about data? You bet. Did we deep dive AI and how it impacts strategy and work flow? Uh-huh! Did we hear from industry leaders sharing best practices and the behind-the-scenes work to create unforgettable "shared moments of joy"? Absolutely. But what I am sharing today is Jenny Wood's take on Wild Courage.
Hit it, Mrs. C, my ChatGPT friend...
Wild Courage: Go After What You Want and Get It is a personal development and career-growth book about overcoming fear and boldly pursuing your goals, especially in professional settings.
Stop trying to fit in—differentiation is what creates opportunity and visibility.
-
Be “Selfish” (Prioritize Your Goals)
Advocate for yourself and your ambitions instead of constantly putting others
first.
-
Be “Shameless” (Ask for What You Want)
Don’t let fear of rejection stop you—opportunities often go to those who ask.
-
Be “Obsessed” (Commit Fully)
Focus deeply on your goals and pursue them with energy and persistence.
-
Be “Nosy” (Stay Curious & Build Relationships)
Ask questions, learn from others, and actively expand your network.
-
Be “Manipulative” (Influence with Intention)
Understand people and situations so you can communicate effectively and
move ideas forward.
-
Be “Brutal” (Be Direct & Decisive)
Make tough decisions, give honest feedback, and don’t avoid necessary
action.
Friends, skip the next few nights of Netflix or YouTube and snag the Audiobook of Wild Courage. I promise you there will be value added for all who read/listen to this 256 page pep talk. There were a lot of beneficial tips, tricks and topics shared at WIGCOT, but my favorite speaker, hands down, was Woods and her passionate regard for wild courage.
Good news for you, I think Chris and I are finally out of conferences to attend. Well, until we welcome the fall season that is!
