Donate Monthly!

We’re thrilled to announce that the Humane Society of Sonoma County is joining shelters and rescues across the country to participate in the ASPCA’s national Rescue Effect campaign! Now in its second year, this initiative is designed to help place more animals into loving homes and reduce the length of time they spend in shelters.

The Rescue Effect campaign, running from August through October, is the ASPCA’s national campaign dedicated to helping organizations increase adoptions and engage the public. This year, the ASPCA is providing $2 million in grants to participating shelters across the country, to cover adoption fees and support operations.

As part of this effort, HSSC will be offering fee-waived adoptions on select kittens, available to meet at our Tail Waggin’ trailer during special adoption events! These events will happen at both our Santa Rosa and Healdsburg campuses!

“Each year, as the weather warms up, we see an influx of kittens arriving at the shelter. With the help of our amazing foster volunteers, we are able to help these vulnerable little beings grow healthy and strong. After they are spayed/neutered and vaccinated, they’re ready to be adopted into loving homes! That’s where you come in!”

“We are so excited to be partnering with the ASPCA for the Rescue Effect campaign to hold fee-waived adoptions for select kittens from our Tail Waggin’ trailer at these upcoming events!”

- Karrie Stewart, RVT, HSSC’s Director of Animal Pathways.

Most shelters across the country are full, with nearly six million dogs and cats entering shelters and rescues in 2024, and animals, especially dogs, are often staying longer in care before being adopted. Choosing to adopt helps the animal you take home and supports many more by freeing up space and resources.

Animal shelters have pets of all sizes, ages and an array of wonderful personalities, and if you aren’t able to adopt, temporarily fostering also helps free up space for other animals in need.
