THANKS SO MUCH to everyone at Northmont for the prayers, cards and well-wishes. It has really meant a lot to Peggy and me. Now on to recovery, rehabilitation, and proper use of my new heart parts.  - Bob Addleman

AMOS DINNER this month will be

on Wednesday, October 15.

The main course will be grilled cheese (by master grilled cheese chef Rev. Ben Robbins) and chili. Spiritual Formation is looking for assistance from someone in the congregation. They would like to invite 1 or 2 folks to share their award-winning chili with everyone that evening. Please let Cheryl English or anyone on Spiritual Formation know if you are willing to prepare and share!

Northmont is collecting food and items to be distributed to needy families By Northside Common Ministries (NCM)

Bags are located at the sanctuary entrances and on the table by the tower entrance. Please return your bags to the library across from the church office no later than Sunday, October 12th.

Reminder: Please keep items to Regular Size and NO GLASS containers. Items always in need: Peanut Butter (Plastic), Pasta Sauce (Plastic or Can), Pasta, Rice, Canned Fruits or Vegetables, Soup (Condensed or Hearty).

Monetary contributions are welcome, make checks out to Northmont UPC and put “NCM Food Pantry” on the memo line. Or use the pew envelope to donate cash. Be sure to write NCM Food Pantry on the envelope!

2026 STEWARDSHIP CAMPAIGN

The theme of this year’s campaign is preparing to thrive in the next 100 years as a congregation – we can’t just hope for the things that we want, but we must pray for the wisdom to make them happen.

In 1 Kings 3:1–15 (Solomon asks for wisdom) “So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, “... I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.”

Everyone should receive a letter about the campaign, along with a commitment-pledge card. If you did not, please contact the church office. We will present our commitment-pledge cards on Sunday, October 26, 2025. Please bring your completed pledge card with you to worship by October 26 or mail it to the church office. Thank you in advance for your continued generosity and care for one another.

THE DINING OUT GROUP will enjoy the Red Orchid Thai Restaurant at 5439 Babcock Blvd on Oct. 20 at 6:30. Contact Sarah Jane Beorn at 412-952-0662, by Oct. 19, to be included in the reservation. All are welcome.

Clef Notes

Music Director, Stephen Schall

stephen@northmontchurch.org

This Sunday I’ll be in Toledo, OH, helping to lead the music at Monroe Street United Methodist Church, where I once served, as they celebrate their 200th anniversary year. Just after graduating from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, I was appointed Interim Director of Music there. Though I was only at Monroe Street for nine months, it was a deeply formative time in my career.

We often think about the impact a minister or musician has on a congregation, but the reverse is also true. Congregations leave a lasting mark on those who serve them — for good or ill! — shaping our lives and ministries in ways that stay with us for years to come. Monroe Street was one of those places for me.

Here at Northmont, Larry Allen will be leading the music. Dianna Hollo and Chelsea Cockburn will sing the “Laudamus te” from Vivaldi’s Gloria, and the choir will be on hand to sing the responses.

See you next week!

Do you have a tall, legal-sized file cabinet that you’d like to donate to the church? Stephen Schall is looking for one to house part of the Northmont choral music library.

SUNDAY, OCTOBER 26th, THE REVEREND SUSAN MEYER will join us as part of our 100th Anniversary Guest Preacher Series.

She was Assistant Pastor at Northmont in 1982 and then Associate Pastor in 1984. Upon leaving Northmont in 1997, she was director of the Alzheimer’s unit at a local nursing home. In 2001, she moved to Holy Family Institute’s In-Home Program and later transitioned to the Family Focused program, which provides mental-health care within the home. She retired from Holy Family in September 2023.

We hope you’ll be able to join us in welcoming her.

Please take a look at the Sewing Sisters’ bulletin board at the tower door entrance and the Knit Wits’ hallway display. These ladies share their talents and love to support various missions.
