Our faith calls us to serve.
Communities in the Diocese of New York have cared for our neighbors across generations. We’ve raised our collective voice and organized for justice.
We’ve shared a Gospel of Jesus Christ that's joyful, hopeful, and loving.
God’s story for us right now is the renewal of the Church for the healing of the world.
- The installation service on Saturday, February 10 will celebrate how we’ve faced outward and joined with interfaith, ecumenical, and civic partners to participate in God’s healing.
We’ve hosted feeding programs from our front steps and shelters in our parish halls. We’ve opposed apartheid in South Africa and supported basic rights for farmworkers in New York State. We’ve cared for all our children, in New York and globally.
Leaders in the Diocese of New York have become icons for New York, the nation, and the world. Our congregations and schools raised up the Roosevelts and Pauli Murray. King and Tutu preached from our pulpits.
I came to New York three decades ago to help start Episcopal Charities, which supports neighborhood outreach across our three regions and ten counties.
Now, we’re expanding our commitment to reparations for slavery, launching our diocesan credit union, and greening our buildings. These initiatives underscore our commitments to racial, economic, and environmental justice.
- The Holy Spirit moves at ground level - renewal & healing are connected. We’re focused on our local communities so our local communities can focus outward to their neighborhoods.
I hope that you’ll come on February 10 to celebrate our history, our commitments, and our partnerships. The installation service will be scripture, prayer, and song.
I’m delighted the Rev. Winnie Varghese will be our preacher. I respect Winnie’s leadership and voice. I always learn from her message.
Thanks to Diane Pollard & the Rev. Anne Marie Witchger for co-chairing the installation. I’m grateful to Dean Patrick Malloy and the team from the Cathedral of St. John the Divine for their creative and thoughtful planning.
We’ve included below all the information that you need to participate.
Grace and Peace,
