Good Ancestor: Giving To The WE

God picks up the reed-flute world and blows.

Each note is a need coming through one of us, a passion, a longing pain.

Remember the lips where the wind-breath originated, and let your note be clear.

Don’t try to end it.

Be your note.

~ Rumi

Dear Changemaker,

Thank you for your commitment towards advancing intergenerational wellbeing and equity. Today, we have some exciting news to share – Giving Tuesday is approaching, and we're launching a campaign that's close to our hearts: "Being a Good Ancestor."

WE visualize a world of endless possibilities and mutual abundance where each one of us has an opportunity to live their best life in this present time and seven generations after us.

Our predecessors went beyond giving. As good ancestors, they had us in mind and invested their time, efforts and resources to create the world as it is. The mantle has been passed down to us and we endeavor to continue the work they started. Luckily, the world presents us with numerous opportunities to build on the legacies of our good ancestors by working to become better ancestors. Giving Tuesday affords us an equal opportunity to invest in posterity.

Giving Tuesday is a global movement where people come together to give back to causes that they believe in. It's a day dedicated to kindness, love, and generosity. For WE In The World, this movement provides an opportunity to support initiatives that advance intergenerational wellbeing and equity and supports our vision of becoming better ancestors. For this reason, WE invite you to join our Giving Tuesday #being a good ancestor campaign to spread love and light across generations.

How To Get Involved

This year, Giving Tuesday falls on November 28th, 2023, and we're asking you to give generously to support the WE. 100% of your donation–minus the fee for the donation platform–directly supports either the WE mission or changemakers who are critical generational change around the world.

Why Give to the WE?

Your continued support has made real change possible! In three years, WE have forged bonds with thousands of changemakers all over the world. Together we are creating the conditions for everyone to thrive. These strong coalitions have seen WE raise over $27M for communities and create over 5K jobs in communities of color. Through our networks, WE have also reached over 872M people to create equity and wellbeing and had 5 of our frameworks adopted nationally as demonstrations showing policy change.

Our work is not finished, and WE would like you to support us. Your unrestricted donation to WE in the World will allow us to multiply our impact to support changemakers around the world. As changemakers, your dedication to creating a better world resonates deeply with us. Join us on Giving Tuesday, be a better ancestor, and help us pave the way for a brighter future.

Let's shape a brighter tomorrow through giving, Together!

True Generosity Involves More Than Just Giving

October 9, 2023

Virtues such as generosity are complicated. They involve more than just outward behaviour. A person’s underlying thoughts, feelings and motives matter, too. If those aren’t in good shape, then one cannot qualify as a generous person. The same holds for other virtues, such as compassion, humility and forgiveness.

So what more is involved in being a generous person besides consistently donating one’s money, time and resources?

The Billionaire Curse

Aeon Magazine

The increasing power of philanthropy today does indeed make a difference in society. But the market-based orientation of contemporary foundations and their complex public-private partnerships can and does have negative implications in multiple spheres.

Because of their own business backgrounds, billionaires and their foundations insist on cost-benefit calculations, metrics-based accountability and a return on investment for those initiatives they support.

How A Tide Of Tech Money Is Transforming Charity

-The Economist

No one has more money to give away than the tech tycoons. Tech has spent the past two decades disrupting everything from shopping to television. As the preferences of donors change, so must the fundraising tactics of recipients. It helps if charities have grand ambitions too...And there is no harm in asking for big donations, either...The vehicles through which young tech titans dispose of their wealth are changing, too. More modest charitable ventures, and those without connections, can find it harder to attract donations.
