|
|
We got a chance to catch up with our good friends Connie and Precious at our Staff Appreciation Picnic last week! "Connie and I are going strong as ever! It was tough being away from her while I was visiting my family in Africa. Life just isn't the same without Connie by my side."

Activities for Adults with IDD
Our goal as Disability Service providers is not only to provide direct care to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), but also to enrich their lives and get them engaged with their community. With this in mind, we feel it is our duty to shine a light on additional services that engage the population we serve in interactive ways.
Below is a short list of Medicaid-approved Vendors throughout New Jersey that provide services to adults with IDD. If you are interested in learning more about enrollment in these services, reach out to your Support Coordinator who can help you begin the enrollment process.

The YMCA has been a longtime advocate for the IDD population and has created many opportunities for individuals to engage in their services. The Y utilizes experienced staff trained to work with disabled individuals and develops programs that promote confidence, independence, and overall health and wellness. Their vast programming includes weight training, aquatics, sports, and everything in between!
No matter your loved one's interests, the Y is sure to have exactly what you're looking for.

Established in 2009, the Blue Light Music Program provides inclusive music and multimedia services to individuals with IDD of all ages. The provider operates in several towns throughout New Jersey, namely Mt. Holly, Trenton, and Blackwood while also providing online education services.
Individuals enrolled in their programs can choose from a number of different activities including Music Performance, Music Production, Recording, Video Production, and Graphic Design. Blue Light prides themselves in maintaining a high Staff-to-Student ratio so that each of their program participants receive the individualized attention they deserve.
|
GameU is an educational provider founded by Game Industry Professionals that teach program participants how to design and build their own video games and robots. While their website focuses on the services they provide to children and young adults, GameU is also a Medicaid-approved Vendor for adults with IDD!
While enrolled in their services, program participants can learn technical skills such as game design, programming, 3D modeling, and sound design. In additional to these activities, GameU also helps individuals develop soft skills such as public speaking and teamwork. No matter the activity, GameU adjusts their curriculum to the level of ability of their students.
|
If your loved one enjoys playing soccer, Little Kicks is the place for them! While their services are primarily tailored towards children, Little Kicks is also listed as a Medicaid-approved Vendor for adults with IDD.
At Little Kicks, program participants are introduced to group and team concepts with a focus on cooperation, teamwork, and encouragement. Individuals enrolled in their programs also exercise their gross and fine motor skills by participating in fun fitness activities. At the end of the day, Little Kicks' programs for adults work to foster self-esteem and confidence while also communicating the importance of honesty and respect.

Friends of Cyrus is a Human Services agency that provides community-based residential programs, in-home support services, and day habilitation services to New Jersey’s developmentally disabled adults. Since its inception, Friends of Cyrus has operated with an unwavering mission in mind: to create a haven of lifetime support options for individuals with disabilities. Friends of Cyrus currently supports over 120 adults throughout Burlington and Middlesex Counties with a focus on fostering independence, dignity, privacy, choice, and individuality.
Friends of Cyrus was founded in 2013 by Kamelia Kameli, a veteran in the healthcare industry and the parent of an adult son with autism, and Daren Singhani, the former CEO of a healthcare staffing company. Kameli’s son, Cyrus, was diagnosed with Autism at an early age and inspired the founding of the agency.
