A Message from the Director
Dr. Gabriel Morley
I hope you are enjoying the new bi-weekly newsletter of the Fulton County Library System. We have enjoyed the opportunity to reach our patrons with news about library programs and events on a more regular basis.

For our patrons who still miss receiving a print format calendar about programs happening at their branch, please know that you can still receive a monthly calendar from your branch at the information desk with a full listing of events happening at your local library. In addition, you can also view a full calendar of programs, by branch, on our website.

Please take a moment to share this newsletter with a friend or family member and encourage them to stop by a branch today to get a library card ... the most important card in your wallet.
All Libraries will be closed Thursday, November 28th and Friday, November 29th for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Hapeville Library Groundbreaking
The road to building a new Fulton County Library Branch in Hapeville is underway. On Wednesday, November 13, 2019, Fulton County broke ground at the Hapeville Branch Library on King Arnold Street. The facility was originally considered for renovations, but will now undergo complete reconstruction.

The new 5,000 square foot facility will include an updated interior layout to maximize visibility and efficiency, extended shelf space for books, tutoring and training areas, updated building HVAC and MEP systems, as well as new upgraded technology, computers, and displays.

MalCon comes to the Milton Library
Milton Library was proud to host the inaugural Milton Area Library Convention (MALCon) on Saturday, October 26. It was an all-day event covering a host of subjects and interests, with panels and workshops throughout the day. The Guest of Honor for 2019 was Sara Varon, illustrator and writer of Robot Dreams.

Panels discussions included subjects covering cosplay basics, how to publish your genera book, Live Action Role Playing, how to pick out the right comic for kids and much more. Local comic artists, writers and other professionals were on hand during the day for the panels and workshops. The Milton Library partnered with the International Animation Society (ASIFA-South) to show animated shorts as part of International Animation Day in our Teen Room.

In addition, guests enjoyed an all-day Miniature Paint & Take, as well as conducting Magic the Gathering, board games and Dungeons and Dragons demos throughout the library. The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) was out in force showing off pre-17th century crafts and history in our lobby area and performed fencing and sword fighting demos in Milty Plaza in front of the library. The first year event had an amazing turnout with over 350 attendees.
The next event, MALCon II, will take place on November 7, 2020.
