The Community Transitional School is a private pre-K-8th grade school
dedicated to the educational needs of children throughout the
Portland metro area whose families are homeless or in transition.

Many of these children struggle with domestic violence or with parents who have
drug or alcohol addiction.  Many of these children are second-generation
homeless, behind academically and have low self-esteem.
The school's purpose is to provide these at-risk, 4 -14 year old children,
whose families move frequently from homeless shelters to motel rooms to
bunking with friends, to sleeping in vehicles with a stable
educational environment that promotes their personal and academic growth.

The school is based on the philosophy that given the right blend of
encouragement, education and support, it's students can develop the skills,
habits and determination to break out of the cycle of poverty and homelessness
and become productive members of society.
