GGUSD has been recognized as a 2025 California Honor Roll District, with 38 schools earning the distinction of Honor Roll Schools — more than any other district in Orange County!

This prestigious recognition, awarded by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business Education Excellence (CBEE), celebrates schools and districts that consistently achieve high levels of student success and close achievement gaps for all learners. Out of California’s school districts, only 158 made the list this year — and GGUSD is proud to stand among the best!

GGUSD Honors Our Class of 2027 Simon Scholars

At last week's board meeting, GGUSD proudly honored 46 exceptional students from our seven comprehensive high schools who were selected as the Class of 2027 Simon Scholars! These students have demonstrated dedication, resilience, and leadership, earning a spot in this transformative program that supports students facing significant life and financial challenges. The Simon Scholars Program provides an incredible array of resources to help students reach their college and career goals!

Simon Family Foundation Executive Director Andy Robles attended the Board meeting to personally thank GGUSD for its longstanding partnership and present the district with a special Legacy District Award — recognizing our commitment to providing equitable opportunities for all students. With Pacifica High School joining last year, the Simon Scholars Program is now available at all seven of GGUSD’s comprehensive high schools, expanding life-changing opportunities for even more students. GGUSD is proud to celebrate these bright scholars and the promising futures they are building!

Santiago High School Students Selected for Prestigious Honor Choir

Congratulations to Santiago High School’s talented choir students, Logan Castellanos and Tammy Nguyen. Both students auditioned for the prestigious Southern California Vocal Association High School Honor Choirs earlier this month — and were accepted! Out of roughly 600 student auditions from across SoCal, only the top vocalists earn a spot in one of the three honor choirs. Logan and Tammy impressed judges with their solo performances, showcasing their exceptional voices and musicianship skills. They will proudly represent Santiago High School for the very first time and join 270 other outstanding students from Southern California for a special performance on Saturday, November 8th, at the University of Redlands. GGUSD is so proud of our amazing CAVS!

GGUSD Shows Support for Boys & Girls Clubs of Garden Grove

GGUSD Board President Lan Nguyen, Trustees Walter Muneton and Teri Rocco, and GGUSD administrators had a wonderful time at the Boys & Girls Club Toasting Great Futures event this past Saturday! It was a wonderful evening filled with connection, community, and celebration. GGUSD is incredibly grateful for our longstanding partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Garden Grove, which continues to provide amazing opportunities for our students!

Walton Intermediate Parents Build a Strong School Community

Walton Intermediate recently wrapped up its 40 Developmental Assets parent class series offered entirely in Spanish. This five-session series brought together an incredible group of 22 parents! GGUSD is proud to see our families actively engaging in learning opportunities that strengthen home-school connections and support student success.

Clinton Elementary recently hosted its second Lunch on the Lawn event, bringing together students and families for a fun-filled afternoon of food, laughter, and connection! Families enjoyed spending quality time with their children while celebrating the strong sense of community that makes Clinton such a special place to learn and grow.

At Mark Twain Special Education Center, learning comes to life every single day! Students participate in engaging, individualized activities that promote growth, confidence, and joy in learning. Whether practicing communication skills, exploring through sensory play, or celebrating milestones big and small, Mark Twain’s dedicated staff ensure that every student is supported and empowered to reach their fullest potential. 

GGUSD Takes a Trip Down Memory Lane

In 1956, a new high school campus was built to serve the growing population of Garden Grove: Rancho Alamitos. The school's name is a nod to Rancho Los Alamitos, the name of the ranch that originally occupied the site. Rancho Los Alamitos was a 28,000 acre ranch that neighbored a plot of land once known as Rancho Las Bolsas. The home of the Vaqueros opened with no senior class but over the next few years the young campus evolved as the student body grew. Today, much of the footprint is the same, with some aesthetic and safety upgrades. Rancho, as it is referred to fondly, is a campus filled with history, that is contributing to a bright future.

Today’s spotlight shines on Allyna Nguyen, La Quinta High School’s School Community Liaison, a proud La Quinta graduate!

With four years of service in GGUSD, Allyna’s motivation comes from a deep desire to help others and pay forward the support she received as a student. She shares, “I firmly believe in the vision and direction of GGUSD. I see it not just as an employer, but as a place that truly fosters my development, and that assurance is very comforting.”

Her favorite part of GGUSD is witnessing the strong partnership between schools and families — a core part of our district’s culture that supports all students, embraces diversity, and ensures equity so every learner can thrive.

Free Live-Chat Tutoring for All GGUSD Students

GGUSD has partnered with Varsity Tutors to offer FREE 24/7 live chat tutoring and one-hour tutoring sessions to support students in their academic success (Goal 1). The program is accessible from home through ClassLink using a district-provided device.
