#GivingTuesday!

We invite you to consider Social Compassion in Legislation (SCIL), our 501(c)(4), or Social Compassion, our 501(c)(3), when deciding where to invest your charitable dollars. Our two groups only exists with the donations provided by our supporters. It is because of you that we have been able to pass groundbreaking legislation that has saved the lives of millions of animals across the globe and provided humane education to thousands of children in California.

Please note you can donate to the 501c3 and receive a tax deduction, while donating to the 501c4 does not receive a deduction.

This past two-year legislative session was a record session for animal rights in California, with our 501(c)(4), SCIL, leading the charge on a number of bills signed by Governor Newsom.

Through our efforts over the last two years, we have…

  • Mandated all dogs and cats are microchipped that leave animal shelters (SB 573 - Chang)
  • Prohibited the use of all wild animals in all circuses (SB 313 - Hueso)
  • Prohibited recreational and commercial fur trapping (AB 273 - Gonzalez-Fletcher)
  • Banned the sale of numerous exotic animal skins (AB 1260 - Maienschein)
  • Defeated three versions of the same bill that would have allowed the continued sale of alligator and crocodile products – an effort supported by monied interests largely from outside of California.

But these are only the most recent efforts. Did you know that SCIL co-sponsored a historic bill in 2018 (Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act) that completely transformed the way cosmetics manufacturers test their make-up and personal hygiene products? Beginning January 1, 2020, SB 1249 (Galgiani) went into effect, making it unlawful to sell any cosmetics in California if the final product or any component of the product was tested on animals after January 1, 2020.

But again, this only happens with your support. Please consider supporting Social Compassion in Legislation this #GivingTuesday!

Or, consider DONATING to our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Social Compassion, as your donations are 100% tax deductible. Help us to continue our goal of getting humane education in schools across California and other efforts to save and protect animals.
